ZOYA Satins Collection for Fall 2013 Review, Photos, Swatches

zoya satins fall 2013 collection

Gorgeous shades for fall…

It’s very, very rare that ZOYA lets me down, and this new seasonal collection for fall makes me very, very happy! The Satins and Cashmeres (review forthcoming in a second post) Collections were just released, and they make me want to unpack my fall sweaters in August. It’s in the 80s, so don’t worry—I won’t! But I’ll still gladly rock these rich hues before Labor Day.

The shades…

Maria Luisa, Channing, Mason, Claudine, Neve, Giovanna

To say that I’m loving these would be an understatement, but I wanted to point out some things I noticed about the shades. Like most ZOYA shades, two coats are sufficient with the Satins Collection. I also noticed that these shades seemed much more pigmented than usual, with nearly full coverage in a single coat (the exceptions would be Channing, and Maria Luisa (but the latter is a flakie, so no biggie.) But like any nail polish—I’m going to suggest two coats of color, and top coat for optimal wear.

If I’m sad about anything, it’s that my swatch photographs do not reflect the true beauty of these shades! If you have the chance to pick up Neve, Giovanna, or Mason—you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. There’s a dynamic to them with shimmering undertones that sneak up on you in various light sources. They’re quite stunning!

Of special note…

  • Maria Luisa is a gold flakie which normally isn’t my deal. These flakies are very thin since they’re cellophane, and I don’t have to fight with them to get them to lay down on the nail like a glitter polish, which is nice. This is an accent topper that doesn’t look so great on its own, so in the swatch you’ll see it paired with Giovanna. This will be a nice one to have around for the holidays!
  • Channing’s formula seemed a bit thinner to me, and I had to be careful not to work it too much to avoid brush strokes. Of all the shades in the collection, this is the one that wanted to streak the most. With a little care, you can work it all out.
  • Both Claudine and Neve had thicker formulas in my opinion than usual, but they were also both extremely pigmented. Try to work more slowly with these, and try not to overwork them, because their finish may provide some brush strokes. The key to avoiding this for me was to make sure the first coat was completely dry before I moved on the second coat. That way, the brush isn’t dragging through both coats, and you’re able to straighten out the second much more easily!

(As always, all swatches are with two coats of color, and one coat of Seche Vite Top Coat. (It’s my top coat of choice.)

I picked up Neve and it is STUNNING! You need to try it with Cult Nails Mayhem layered on top. It turns it into a gorgeous holographic without losing the depth and making the blue-purple somehow more visible. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Oooh! Thanks for the tip! Can you believe it–I STILL have not tried any Cult Nails goodies!

Amber- your nails are so perfect! I’m swatching this collection this weekend. Is it bad that I only look forward to Michigan Fall weather for the change in nail polish colors??? :)

Aww! Thanks! I know EXACTLY what you mean. Usually I can’t pull out my sweaters until October, but you can bet I’ll be wearing these shades earlier! LOLz

  • OutInAPout

I’m very into Maria Luisa- I loved the 24K topcoats everyone was doing this spring, but just couldn’t justify spending what they cost on my little stubbies. I hoped that if I waited, someone would do a more reasonable version, so yay Zoya!

Whenever Zoya has a sale, I try and order a few bottles. The quality is the best I’ve tried so far and I haven’t been disappointed with them. I love all of those colors and the Maria Luisa really reminds me of Greece. Maybe Zoya will let you do a giveaway one day soon. They really are the best, I think. Where do you buy your top coat?

Hi Anna, thanks for your comment! I swear by Seche Vite, and I usually buy it at Sally Beauty Supply. It’s one that you can find almost anywhere, but when I see it in drugstores, I think the price is a little inflated. I will see if Zoya will host a giveaway someday! Thanks for the idea.
