Okay. Not really Mars, as in the planet, but MARS THE SALON! A-List celebrities and nail art junkies alike are flocking to this new type of nail spa in Los Angeles, where zen is the word, and the service is out of this world. Originally hailing from Tokyo, MARS is perfectly pristine, aesthetically pleasing, and the service is unparalleled.
Specializing in damage-free gel application, you can go for the hottest Harajuku-inspired nail art looks, or go for something more chic, created specifically for you by MARS’ highly trained manicurists with exceptional taste. This high-quality, time-honored Japanese custom level of service comes at a pretty penny, but when you’re finished—you’ll be glad you had the experience. Owner Hiroko Fujikawa Mori values the powers of this traditional level of service, and promises that it can’t be found at any other nail salon locally.
Just for fun, here’s an original design from Hiroko herself, with easy tips to help recreate it yourself!
- Apply a base coat to all nails.
- Apply a white coat of polish—like RGB’s White—to every other nail, starting with your thumb. Paint the index and ring finger nails with pale pink and mint shades, allow them to dry.
- Using a thin nail art brush, apply a cobalt blue shade like Chanel’s Bel-Argus to paint the notched design, and fill in each of the halves.
- Once the nails are dry, finish with a top coat.
