MAC RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

mac rihanna loves mac holiday collection

We’ve come to the end of the road with the MAC RiRi Hearts MAC collection, with the holiday launches being the final installment of the special collaboration. There have been some hits (and some misses) along the way, most notably with the lipstick formulations being pretty stellar.

The holiday collection boasts new lipstick shades to love, along with several other products that sold out extremely fast on the MAC website. Didn’t have a chance to grab any? Don’t worry! What you see here will be in North America MAC locations, and Nordstrom (some on nordstrom.com) on 12/12. Here’s a closer look!

I love the components for the RiRi Hearts MAC holiday collection. I’m glad to see that rose gold is so prominent this year, silver and gold can get a little boring, and rose gold is a nice change of pace. The cosmetic items are in white and rose gold packaging with RiRi’s signature on the pieces. (With the lipsticks, her signature is also on the bullet like her previous lipstick releases.)

First up is a Veluxe Pearlfusion eyeshadow palette. There are two color stories (2X Dare, Phresh Out), and I have one of them for you. Phresh Out has five very frosty shades; pale beige shimmer, copper glitter, beige glitter, taupe shimmer, and dark plum brown shimmer. This wasn’t the most flattering combination for me, as the frosty shades look terrible on my eyelids, and the glitter shades have a ton of fallout and don’t have much else to offer. I’ve tried these both wet and dry, and for me, one is no better than the other. I’m bummed! Most of the shades in Phresh Out feel smooth to the touch, so I thought that I’d get a creamy payoff, but no go. I have to really build these up to get them to show up, because they’re just so overtaken by the frostiness of it all. Darn.

The lipsticks gave me something to rejoice over, however! With the holiday collection, there are three lipstick shades—RiRi Woo (you’ll find its full review here), Bad Girl RiRi, and Pleasure Bomb. Pleasure Bomb and Bad Girl RiRi are pictured below and feature MAC’s signature matte formula. I think MAC has one of the best matte formulas in the biz, the colors have intense pigment saturation and wear well over five hours for me. (Pleasure Bomb wears at just over six!) While the taupe-nude Bad Girl RiRi wasn’t the most flattering shade for my skin tone, Pleasure Bomb is a vivid fuchsia that really wowed me. Get it if you can! It’s a wonderful shade for the holiday season and beyond.

I was so excited to finally get a RiRi nail polish shade from this collaboration, and we get it in the form of RiRi Woo, which matches her signature lipstick shade. Admittedly, it’s not the most unique red polish (and easily dupable), but the formula! It’s seriously opaque in one coat, applies beautifully, and has the perfect flow. It makes me wonder why all of the other MAC nail lacquer shades can’t be this consistent. I approve!

Also included in the holiday collection is the Love, Rihanna Bronzing Powder. It’s gorgeous in the pan—it features a raised “R” in rose gold, but sadly it’s overspray and doesn’t go through the whole pan. I couldn’t help but wonder how much more beautiful this product would be if it did, because otherwise it’s got a little bit of a golden sheen—but it doesn’t blend well for me, and makes my skin look a little muddy. I think this is best suited for skin tones darker than mine, and I’m currently between an NC20-NC25. If you’re at the counter and want to give this a shot, I definitely recommend still trying it. Don’t go by what it looks on my skin!

Included in the collection are two Superslick Liquid Eyeliners, and I have one of them, Cockiness. This one is a gorgeous copper glitter that dries with a wet look. Even though these are water-based, I found that this didn’t want to budge and that it didn’t migrate at all once it dried. It took a few seconds longer than usual to dry—I’d say about 20-25 seconds, but once it set, it was there for the duration of the day. Again, since my skin is so fair, I think this will look great on skin tones darker than mine and will show up much better than it did for me.

Also included is this awesome quilted puffy makeup bag in a gorgeous metallic rose gold shade. I know it must sound silly that out of an entire collection that this is one of my favorite pieces—but aside from the Pleasure Bomb lipstick—this was my favorite item! It’s generously sized, and measures 6 1/2″W x 4 1/2″H x 1 1/2″D. This zipper pull is nice and sturdy, a metallic rose gold piece with the MAC logo, and a handle on the side for easy gripping. The interior is also soft rose gold with RiRi’s signature printed on soft, satin-like fabric throughout.

Bottom Line…

Grab those lipsticks if you can! Definitely RiRi Woo if you didn’t already get it in the past seasonal collections, and Pleasure Bomb is a must! (And of course, I heart the RiRi Hearts MAC makeup bag.)
