Exclusive Q&A with Neutrogena’s Gabrielle Union on Her Beauty Routine & UV Protection

gabrielle union neutrogena

This morning, I was FLOORED when I read this on cnn.com:

Until today, the surgeon general has never said, ‘UV radiation is bad for you; protect your skin’, acting Surgeon General Dr. Boris Lushniak said.

I have to wonder how many lives would have been saved if UV protection were taken as seriously during other decades, as it’s taken today. [Read more…]

What’s New: SOFÍA by Sofia Vergara Eau de Parfum (Plus Bonus Giveaway!)

Sofia by Sofia Vergara Fragrance on HSN

I’ve been wearing this gorgeous new fragrance off and on for a few months now, and it comes from the most glamorous, vibrant (and pretty damn funny), exotic beauty I know—SOFÍA by Sofia Vergara. I had the chance to ask Sofia a few questions personally, and here’s what she told me!

You must be really excited about the launch of your fragrance at HSN. Describe SOFÍA by Sofia Vergara for me.

The fragrance is a mix of berries and florals, and there is even a little bit of earthiness to it. The goal was that when women put it on, they would immediately feel a bit more glamorous. I’ve learned a lot through this process and within the industry, my fragrance is categorized as a juicy floral oriental. It incorporates my heritage through the notes and through the shape of the bottle, which is an emerald—the stone of Colombia and my favorite jewel to wear.

I have to ask—what’s the secret behind your killer curves? How do you manage to stay in such incredible shape for being so busy?

How flattering. I am a very healthy eater and I believe in moderation. Exercise is an important part of my lifestyle. I try to do something at least three times a week.

Sofia by Sofia Vergara Fragrance

Sofia is right…

This fragrance is not only deliciously juicy, it does have subtle earth notes that keep it from lingering on the too-sweet or youthful side. It has authentic notes of Colombian rose and Colombian orchid; making it truly an authentic scent from this famous Colombian beauty. There are true touches of Sofia here! Somewhat sunny, and somewhat provocative—I find a perfect balance here between sexy, and everyday glamour. This is a charming and sensual fragrance that isn’t too overpowering, so you can wear nearly daily. I just love it.

Right now, you’ll find it exclusively at HSN where it immediately became a top customer pick. It comes in a few different configurations to choose from at HSN which you’ll find here. I also hear the SOFÍA by Sofia Vergara Shimmer Body Lotion is killer, but I haven’t tried it yet! And a little birdie told me to expect SOFÍA to roll out to other nationwide retailers in the fall. Keep your eyes peeled, you’ll want to try it!

Want some great news? I have a brand new bottle of SOFÍA by Sofia Vergara sitting on my desk right now—just WAITING to send to a lucky winner. So look for the giveaway details below!  [Read more…]

A Whole ‘Lotta Love for Kelly Yum-Yum from The MAC Osbournes Collection

mac kelly yum yum lipstick 1

Without a doubt, I’m super cray over my favorite piece from the Kelly installment of the recent MAC Osbournes CollectionKelly Yum-Yum lipstick. Okay, so bummer. It’s currently sold out on maccosmetics.com, but that doesn’t mean you can’t charm your way to a tube at a MAC counter somewhere; either at a MAC store, or a department store with a MAC counter. You’d be surprised what you can get with a little bit of sugar versus vinegar! I can’t promise anything, but I swear it will never hurt to try.

Like the rest of Kelly’s part of the collection, the components are purple that mimic her various shades of purple hair she likes to rock. It’s also emblazoned with her signature in red. The interior says “MAC” in purple on the black area where you twist the tube.  I like the small touches of detail of the packaging with this celeb-inspired collection.   [Read more…]

Giada De Laurentiis Debuts Her Vegas Restaurant, and Her New Clairol Natural Instincts Shade

Giada De Laurentiis clairol natural instincts amber shimmer the cromwell las vegas opening

Last week, Giada De Laurentiis opened her fantastic new Las Vegas restaurant, Giada to much fanfare. Clairol was so kind to host me for the occasion, and I was there to join in on the festivities, enjoy incredible food (more on that later!), speak with Giada one-on-one about her beauty routine, and get the scoop on her new Clairol Natural Instincts hair color.

Last summer when I checked-in with Giada, she had Natural Instincts in Hot Cocoa as her signature shade—which inspired my own personal hair color change for the trip! With Hot Cocoa as the base, I had my colorist foil in some highlights for a summer look, and to make it my own. As a former colorist myself—Natural Instincts is one of my first choices for an affordable at-home hair color solution—because it’s ammonia-free, covers my grey, and processes in a much shorter period of time than most others I’ve tried—just 10 minutes! Since it’s a demi-permanent, the color fades gradually after about 28 washes for me, but still on-tone, and lacks a hard line of demarcation. (The after-color conditioning treatment that’s included is one of my faves too.)

Giada told me her new shade is Amber Shimmer, what a coincidence! It’s almost like we made a swap—I change to her former signature shade, and she changes to a shade with my name in it. It’s clear, Giada and I are obviously meant to be BFFs.  [Read more…]

P!nk’s Red Carpet Look: The Grammys 2014

56th GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet
Last night on the 2014 Grammys red carpet, I thought P!nk looked incredible in a long red Johanna Johnson gown. I’ve always loved her style, and she is such an amazing performer. The acrobatic routines—love it! Here’s the breakdown on her makeup for the night.

  • To help create the perfect glow, P!NK wore a small amount of COVERGIRL truBLEND Liquid Makeup, mainly through the T zone, which uniforms the skin and gives a photo finish for the base. After the foundation, she doesn’t need much! Just a little COVERGIRL truMAGIC Luminizer to add highlights to the high planes of the face, cheekbones, jawline and crest of the upper lip.
  • Then, COVERGIRL truMAGIC Sunkisser to sculpt the sculpted the cheekbones, jawline and temples to add warmth and dimension. Another great use for the truMAGIC Luminizer is for your body just for a little glow.  [Read more…]

Giada De Laurentiis Dishes Up One of Her Beauty Secrets

Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Giada De Laurentiis, and she dished on one of her favorite beauty secrets—it’s a very easy one, at that. This culinary queen and Food Network star tells me it’s simple…coconut oil!

coconutFor years, I was anti-coconut everything. I didn’t like it, not in cookies—anything. The minute someone said coconut, I said no…I don’t like it. About a year ago, I did a photo shoot and my hair was really dry from a lot of blow outs, the flat iron, and a lot of travel. The person that was doing my hair recommended that I try some coconut oil. I went to the store and got some, and took a little on my hands and through the ends of my hair.

Once I started doing that pretty often, it worked. Then, I started using it as an ingredient in salad dressings, as a cuticle oil, on my lips, and anywhere my skin gets dry. It’s just a great, natural all-in-one ingredient that can be used for so many things!  [Read more…]

Amber: Obviously, you’ve had a long career in the beauty world, and you’ve always been in the spotlight. Somehow, you’ve managed to age so gracefully and are as beautiful today as you were over 20 years ago! When was the first time you realized that you had to make skincare a main priority? Was it something that came naturally to you many years ago, or was it something you had an expert express the importance of it to you one day?

Cindy: I grew up using baby oil when I would lay out in my backyard with a reflecting blanket, so skincare was definitely something I had to learn over the years. On one of my first jobs for Bazaar, we were shooting in Mexico and I got a little too much sun the first day. The next day, the makeup artist reprimanded me because it made her job harder. I think that was the beginning of me being proactive about my skin. About 10 year later, that same makeup artist told me about Dr. Sebagh. He’s been my skincare guru ever since and has helped me manage my skin as I get older.  [Read more…]
