I have a confession to make. It’s been about 20 years since I last visited a Clinique counter. And not for any bad reason — I actually blame it on being overwhelmed by the choices available today. I was always happy with the Clinique products I used (big shout out to Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion!), but something pulled me away. So I went by the counter and got schooled in all things Clinique at Nordstrom Topanga Plaza. Turns out, I was missing quite a bit!
I told Erinda, the lovely counter manager there that I wanted a nice neutral, everyday look that I could easily apply, and I wanted it to look natural. Now, “natural” means different things to every makeup artist, but I was very happy with the subdued, yet polished look she helped me with! These are a few of my fave products she used:
This is the newest foundation from Clinique, and what prompted my visit to the counter! Superbalanced Silk Makeup offers buildable, but light-to-medium coverage. This can also be sheered out a little bit with your brush or sponge to just give a little bit of a more even complexion with just a wash of color. One of the things that I love about this foundation is that you can still see your skin — it’s not too heavy or full, and didn’t look like pancake makeup on top of my freckles. (Sometimes, I still want them to show!) It feels featherweight on my skin, and offers a silky-matte finish that doesn’t look dry. Erinda paired this with Superprimer for me, and it lasted all day — even in 80º temps. I’m usually an NC20-25, and Silk Ivory is perfect for me. $25, clinique.com
I would have picked out this lipstick in a heartbeat! Plum Pop is right up my alley. This lipstick feels nourishing on my lips, the color lasts about four hours before touch-up time (not bad, Clinique!), and has a built-in lip primer. This glides on my lips so smoothly without any tugging or skipping, resulting in nearly effortless full color coverage. They also have matte shades in this range, and they’re gorgeous. $18.50, clinique.com [Read more…]
