Review: Dermalogica Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum

dermalogica ultrasmoothing Eye Serum(Editor’s note: After a brief absence, Dilara is back! We won’t have her for long, as she’s awaiting the arrival of baby #2, but I love having her here!)

As far as skin care goes, Dermalogica never seems to let me down. Their new Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum is no exception to the rule either. This new serum promises not only to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, but also make the skin around the eye firmer and smoother. I’ve been noticing my eyes are showing more wear and tear lately so I was eager to give it a try.

At first glance the serum was a little thinner than I would have expected. I also expected it to be clear, but it had a yellow-ish tint to it. The serum itself has a slight medicinal, botanical scent to it, which I find in most Dermalogica products and kind of like.

This serum contains Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which is a fancy name for water-soluble Vitamin C. This helps prevent redness, stinging and sensitivity around the eye area. Hexapeptide 11 is another ingredient in the serum that promises to firm the skin, improve elasticity and reduce fine lines. There are also several botanical ingredients as well that help moisturize and reduce puffiness. [Read more…]

Currently Obsessed: Meaningful Beauty Cindy Crawford Advanced Formula Lifting Eye Crème

I have to be completely honest.

I’m typically not too crazy about skincare products that I see on infomercials. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’ve rarely had much luck with the products and gadgets I’ve purchased from those seen-on-TV deals, so I try to steer clear of them. But here’s where I’m wrong—Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty skincare line.

About a year ago, I was talking to a makeup artist and on-air beauty expert that I totally respect, and she told me she swears by the Meaningful Beauty Lifting Eye Crème. At the time, I filed it away in the back of my mind, making a mental note to try it someday. Back in December of 2012, it finally came to fruition, and I promise you…I have been obsessed with this eye cream ever since!

In my case, the Lifting Eye Crème has worked to smooth out a few of my fine lines, and it eliminates puffiness on those mornings when I wake up looking pretty haggard. I’m not so sure I need much lifting at this stage in my skincare game, but I can say that I feel this eye cream gently firming my under eye area after application. I’ve been using it morning and night since late December, and I have to admit—I think it makes a difference! Even better, it absorbs completely and quickly, without making my concealer migrate. What’s New: Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Eye Youth Regenerating Eye Balm

If you’ve ever felt like there’s not an eye cream in the world that can handle the fragile, dry skin under your eyes—you’re in luck. (Because you know you’ve tried them all.) Kiehl’s just released the follow up product to their very popular Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream anti-aging moisturizer, and it’s a force to be reckoned with for aging, dehydrated skin. Rosa Arctica Eye is their answer to a “youth regenerating eye balm”, featuring “Resurrection Flower”. This rare flower, Haberlea Rhodopensis, survives in nature for over two years without water, and completely comes back to life within hours of receiving proper hydration. WOW.

From Kiehls…

The Resurrection Plant:
Some plants are capable of growing in drastic, harsh conditions. Among these is the category of plants known as “resurrection” plants, species that have developed the physiological and structural strategies to minimize water loss, dry out completely and survive periods of dryness for months. A resurrection plant is characterized by an ingenious protection system that makes it possible for the plant to survive the dry-out cycle by maintaining its cell structure, allowing it to emerge unharmed during the re-moisturization period. Specifically, Haberlea Rhodopensis, used in Kiehl’s formulas, is a unique plant estimated to be over 10,000 years old and believed to have survived the Ice Age. Found in the Rhodopes Mountains in Bulgaria, it is a member of the violet family and known by the locals as Silivryak or Orpheus flower.

Review: Pevonia Botanica Timeless Eye Contour

I’ve been known to skimp on a few things in my skincare regimen. Every once in a while, I’ll even skimp on my eye cream which is almost UNHEARD of. (But only if it’s a great and affordable one, and those are far and few in-between these days.) The truth of the matter is, when I can help it—I won’t skimp on my eye cream. We all have things we’re afraid of when it comes to aging, and for me—it’s my eyes. I know we all have different ones, but what’s your anti-aging fear?

Review: SebaMed Age Defense Q10 Lifting Eye Cream

I have tried every single eye cream under the sun! From ritzy department store brands to my local drugstore brand, and everything in-between. Having very sensitive skin and eyes, every product that I have tried either makes my eyes feel tight and itchy, causes tiny bumps under my eyes, or flat out just doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything. As a last-ditch effort, I thought that I would give the SebaMed Q10 Lifting Eye Cream a shot. Though the no-frills, straight forward packaging made me wonder if this product could hold up to its lofty claims:

  • 32% Reduction in wrinkles in 28 days
  • Protects the elasticity of the delicate eye area
  • Moisturizes and smooths skin
  • Prevents irritation

Review: Relastin Eye Silk

They say your eyes are the window to your soul, but sometimes they’re a red flag for your age too!  Crow’s feet, dark circles, sagging…eh, you get the idea. I’m an eye cream junkie, so when a sample of Relastin Eye Silk came my way, I was eager to try it!

Relastin Eye Silk boasts that it will help improve your skin’s elasticity and firmness by promoting a natural protein called elastin, which contributes to your skin’s own youthfulness.

I’ve had my share of eye products come my way—some are heavy, some are greasy, some tingle, some are gooey.  This stuff is hands-down the best consistency I’ve ever experienced.  This featherweight gel is unlike anything else you may have felt.  It sinks right into your skin and goes right to business, diminishing wrinkles, reducing puffiness and giving dark circles the boot.  Many eye products suggest you apply them in the morning and at night, but usually they’re so dense and greasy your eye make-up doesn’t stand a chance of staying on after a morning application.  Relastin Eye Silk not only doesn’t leave residue, but it almost instantly smooths your eye area so make-up application is actually easier!  I felt like my eye make-up actually stayed on better when I used this underneath.  [Read more…]

Review: AVEENO Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream

Eye cream is one of those deserted island products for me, I can rarely stand to be without it. And for good reason, too! The skin under the eyes is about ten times thinner than the skin on the face. I once read that our eyes can produce over 10,000 movements a day—and that’s about 10,000 more chances to develop fine lines around such a delicate area. If you cry a lot, have allergies, or have a tendency to rub your eyes, all of those things contribute to damaging the skin’s elasticity too. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about!

Taking care of the skin around our eyes is very important, as is choosing an eye cream that can not only help prevent damage to the area, but also to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, darkness, and puffiness. I think I’ve found something to help my own under eye issues, and it’s AVEENO’s Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream[Read more…]
