The Lipstick League: Week of 9/15/14

The Lipstick League

Question of the Week: Quick! Name three makeup products that you’ve repurchased multiple times.

Answer: Easy! MAC Cosmetics Fix+, Seche Vite Top Coat (my absolute FAVORITE in THE WORLD), and Secret Clinical Strength Stress Response Anti-perspirant/Deodorant. Sorry if that last one is boring or TMI, but I know how hard it is to find a good one. I have a backup in my closet at all times!

The Lipstick League: Week of 9/8/14

The Lipstick League

Whew! You guys, I just read an article that parts of South Dakota and Wyoming just experienced the earliest snow storms in years. They dumped up to 20 inches of snow in parts of Wyoming on Wednesday and Thursday, and sent overnight temperatures plummeting into the 20s in some areas.

I hate to say it—but it just hit noon here in Los Angeles on this September day, and it’s already a smart 101°. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry! Especially considering that I’m staring at both fall and holiday collections on my desk right now, and I’m pondering if it’s too early to post winter collections. Do you still want to see them early? Let me know!

Question of the week:

When a beauty product is labeled “Limited Edition” (LE), are you more inclined to purchase it?

Answer: Hmm. Yes, and no! I’d like to think that I don’t purchase items specifically because they’re deemed “limited edition”, but there are often items in those LE collections that are hard to come by, so I pick them up. Sometimes, it’s just a collector’s item thing for me. Like when brands collaborate with pop culture references, etc. But at this stage, I don’t buy things solely because they are LE. When I was younger, I definitely did! The second an LE MAC lipstick palette came out during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I was all over it. Just because it was limited edition!

I hope you enjoy this week’s links from the lovely ladies of The Lipstick League!

Lipstick league 2

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This is the week of the 6th anniversary of Beauty Junkies Unite. Keep your eyes peeled here on the blog and on my social media accounts for special giveaways just for you! Now let’s take a look at this week’s links from my friends in The Lipstick League…

Question of the Week: Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. What do you do?

Answer: I would never loan mascara or eyeliner, so that’s out anyway. I have allowed only very, VERY good girlfriends to use my lipstick, and that’s been fine. (I dip in alcohol later to cleanse.) If someone broke a blush pan, nail polish, or foundation bottle, I’d just assume it was an accident and let it go. Over the years, I’ve kind of developed a “don’t expect to see back what you loan out” mentality. (I’m pretty selective about what I loan, and pretty much always receive everything back!) But makeup is a little different to me. If one of my really good girlfriends is in need of something I have (within reason), it’s okay with me if an accident happens. They’d probably offer to try to replace, and that gesture would be good enough for me. I love my makeup collection, but I treasure my friends more! Prime Beauty is not very adept in the kitchen, but she can make BECCA’s Beach Tint Shimmering Souffle present beautifully! Phyrra: Love Urban Decay? The Lipstick League: Memorial Day Edition

us flag

The Lipstick League hopes you’ve had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Let’s remember those we’ve lost in the Armed Services who bravely fought for our country. That’s what it’s all about!

Question of the Week: What are some of your favorite blushes, highlighters and/or bronzers for summer?

Answer: I LOVE all the bright shades out right now, and I’m even more in love with the new BECCA Beach Tint Shimmer Souffles. What’s better than beautiful color AND highlight in one? All of the shades are gorge, but I’m leaning more towards the Lychee/Opal combo. Another thing I don’t want to be out of is the IT Cosmetics Vitality Face Disc. It has the perfect bronzer, blush, and highlighter in a convenient compact!

Enjoy this week’s links…

Behind the Scenes: jouer Spring Sirens Photo Shoot

Jouer spring sirens When one of your favorite makeup brands emails an invite to be photographed in their cosmetics with the master makeup artist and photographer, Troy Jensen—you don’t walk—you RUN. As a legit jouer girl, I let out an audible SQUEE!, and then worried about what I was going to wear. The more I thought about it, I decided to just wear simple black since it’s timeless, and I could jazz it up with a statement necklace. Seems like Troy and I were on the same page, because he took one look at me and said “rock and roll goddess”. We picked out some statement necklaces, added a ton of sexy hair that sadly wasn’t mine, and we were on our way!

When Troy says something, you just TRUST. You don’t question, you don’t worry. This is the guy who has the most incredible eye for creating some of the hottest editorial, video, and red carpet looks for A-list celebs—and he was touching my face. (Insert another *squee* here.) I guarantee you’ve seen his work everywhere, but you just don’t know it. He’s hot stuff. (Literally and figuratively!) Check out his site, troyjensen.com, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Here’s what he selected from jouer to glam up my face…

Jouer product looks I wish I could dish all the secrets on his incredible application, but his techniques are definitely HIS techniques. Troy tells me he’s totally self-taught, and prides himself on his work (which definitely shows). I think self-taught is the best way for ANY artist, because you’re not bound by rules or by what someone else wants to teach or mold you into. (Who wants carbon copies? I don’t!) I don’t blame him for not spilling the beans in a step-by-step tutorial. If I had his talent, I’d keep it to myself too.  [Read more...]
