The Lipstick League — week of 7.25.11

How’s your weekend going so far? I’m busy prepping to leave for BlogHer next week in sunny San Diego! Will I see you there? If you spot me, PLEASE make sure to say hello—I’d love to meet you all. I’ll be taking a short blog vacation next month, so this is the last Lipstick League update you’ll see for a few weeks—but I’ll be back before you know it!

Question of the Week:

What’s your favorite skincare line?

Answer: Yikes! I’m a total skincare person and I’m not committed to any one brand in particular. I can tell you a few of my faves though! Bliss has its fair share of cabinet space in my bathroom, as does AVEENO, DDF, and bareMinerals. (Their new eye cream and facial cleanser are EXCELLENT!)

What’s your favorite skincare line? Tell me in the comments section!

Here are this week’s Lipstick League links…

The Lipstick League — week of 7.11.11

Hi dolls! I hope you had a nice weekend! Mine was spent playing peacemaker with our two kitties and I needed a little off-time to spend time with the hubs over the weekend. But…back to the grind! How are you? This week’s question…

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a beauty product?

Answer: Yikes! I’ve spent a lot of money on a lot of beauty products! I honestly can’t remember anything outrageous in a single purchase, like a $500 jar of Creme de la Mer or anything. But I’d say I spend the most on skincare products and gadgets. I don’t have a problem paying for expensive serums and eye creams (about $100) if they have powerful, clinically proven ingredients (and they work for me)—and I don’t have a problem with buying powerful tools to deliver results. A few fave splurges—a CHI hair dryer, a T3 hair dryer, and a Clarisonic. I also spent about $100 for a shower filtration system that I consider a beauty product. I’ve been in the industry for about 9 years now, and I shudder to think what I’ve spent over the years! But I still think there are less expensive products that perform well, don’t get me wrong. My beauty arsenal is all over the place in price points.

Here are this week’s links…

Lipglossiping – champions the Brit pack with a couple of purchases from Mary Quant Cosmetics, ironically… made in Japan!

The Lipstick League — week of 7.4.11

What a weekend, beauties! As I type, I am sitting in allergy-land and my head feels about 3 times bigger than it really is, and my eyes have had their fair share of allergy drops. We drove out of state over the weekend to pick up the newest member of our family, Scratch. He’s Cocoa’s birth-brother—and when we found out my family members had to find a new home for him, we could not bear the thought of him going with another family—we wanted him to be back with the sister he lived with for the first four years of his life. Well, the introduction didn’t go as planned…and now we are following all of the “how to introduce a new cat into the household” tips. And for some reason, I am SO allergic to this little guy!

It will pass, I remember the same thing happening with Cocoa when she came home, but it has been a rough weekend—my poor nose! My husband and I are taking shifts with the cats in their respective rooms so that neither one feels neglected or punished. It will be an interesting week for sure. But enough about me. How are you? And do you want this week’s links and question? Say no more my girls…

What’s a beauty trend that you wish would go away?

Answer: To be perfectly honest—I don’t see this one often enough to call it a “trend”, but sometimes I do still spot the extremely dark lipliner and lighter lipstick thing going on. I’m so sorry if that offends anyone, I promise it’s not meant to be offensive! But I also truly believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I’m pretty sure I do some things every now and then that someone wishes I didn’t. ;)

Beauty Junkies Unite – Amber shares the entire Dolce & Gabbana Italian Summertime makeup collection, is there anything here you find swoon-worthy?

Clumps of Mascara – can’t take her hands off of Milani’s limited edition Paint palette.

EauMG – reviews a spicy, garden fresh fragrance by L’Artisan Parfumeur.

Lipglossiping – puts the stamp of approval on FIVE of the hottest pink lipsticks for Summer!  [Read more…]

The Lipstick League — week of 6.27.11

Happy 4th of July weekend! Did you miss us last week? Your loyal Lipstick League had a minor techie glitch last week, and believe me—we missed you too! But we’re back :) In this week’s round-up, you’ll find a few IMATS recaps…and sadly my bad knee prevented me from going after all—so I don’t have a recap to offer you this year. I’m living vicariously through the dolls who did go and who are giving me all the 411. Ready for this week’s question?

What’s the one shade you wish you could pull off, but can’t?

Answer: For me, I’d have to say blues. I don’t seem to do very well with blues on my own. When other artists apply them on my eyes—they seem to look okay, but when I try…I look like a clown. I’m not really afraid of most colors, in fact—I welcome a challenge, but blues get me every time.

What’s the one shade you wish you could pull off, but can’t? Leave yours in the comments!

Here are this week’s links from the Lipstick League:

Clumps of Mascara – has found the blush of all blushes. This one is absolutely gorgeous!

Lipglossiping – channels her inner eyeshadow geek when she swatches her Shiro Cosmetics haul. Come take a peek(achu)!

Refresh Your Daily Routine This Month With Clairol Natural Instincts

Have you noticed that Clairol Natural Instincts has gotten even better? I know I’ve reviewed the traditional Natural Instincts demi-permanent hair color in the past, but recently, the line was updated! It now includes the Natural Instincts Vibrant Collection, which is a permanent hair color option that comes with a Week 2 Color Refresher. And while the formula for the traditional Natural Instincts demi-permanent version hasn’t changed at all—you’ll find the addition of a Week 2 Color Refresher inside too. Say goodbye to lackluster hair, and hello to refreshed color!

I recently changed my base color, and I’ve been able to maintain it at home with #28 Nutmeg/Dark Brown. For my own hair, I continue to use the traditional demi-permanent line as a personal preference—I find it works fantastic for covering my greys and it doesn’t take a lot of time. It processes in just 10 minutes, is ammonia-free, and I love the shine it gives my hair, not to mention—I always get a perfect match!

How will you know which version is right for you? Let’s take a look at the differences between the traditional Natural Instincts and the new Natural Instincts Vibrant line to help you decide!

Traditional Natural Instincts demi-permanent hair color (brown box)

  • Demi/semi-permanent hair color that gradually washes out after 28 shampoos with no line of demarcation/root line—less commitment!
  • Processes in just 10 minutes
  • You can’t go lighter on hair with pre-existing color with this since demi/semi-permanent hair color only deposits color, but you can enhance or add subtle color to your hair’s natural color
  • Will cover hair that’s up to 50% grey
  • Comes with the new Week 2 Color Refresher color treatment to help refresh color—this replenishes the color tones that tend to fade over time, to extend the life of your shade in just 5 minutes
  • Available in 36 antioxidant-rich shades for healthy-looking, shiny hair
  • Costs about $8.99

New Natural Instincts Vibrant Collection (silver box)  [Read more…]

The Lipstick League — week of 6.13.11

Well, happy weekend to you! Last week’s knee injury didn’t stop me from traveling all the way out to Woonsocket, Rhode Island this week to visit CVS Pharmacy headquarters—because I wouldn’t let it! I went there with several fellow bloggers to learn about some of the latest and greatest things CVS has on the horizon for all of us as consumers…and let me tell you—I had a sneak peek at the new Salma Hayek NUANCE line (a CVS exclusive), and I am dying to try so many things from the collection! The haircare and body products all smell AMAZING, too. I’ll have more to share with you on that front later…but I just wanted to give you a peek behind my week! Hope yours went well :) But I’m glad to be home, I missed my kitty and my hubs; and west/east coast travel and back in such a short time frame always really zaps my energy. I wish I would have been there longer…maybe I wouldn’t feel so exhausted now!

Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for…the question of the week:

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

Answer: Well my lovelies, that depends. If I need full-on hair and makeup, we’re talking about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes—thanks to my VERY testy hair. If it’s just a casual day that requires minimal product…it takes about 30-45 minutes depending on how I decide to wear my hair. Most days I’m happy to shower, allow my hair to air dry, and use multi-tasking products like tinted moisturizer and bronzer and call it a day for a quick fix!

How about you?
