Review: JOICO Smooth Cure Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner

When I write my reviews, I make it a rule to not research the MSRP for any of the products I test. I don’t want the dollar signs to sway my opinion one way or the other. However, JOICO Smooth Cure Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner got the best of me. I was guessing it was around $30 for a 10.1 oz. bottle. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised—shocked actually!

I have thick, coarse hair that is getting pretty out of control with layers and length. It’s been a challenge all summer to keep my locks tame during this sweltering heat—it’s been a battle of the frizzies all summer and I’ve been losing desperately.

After one use of their shampoo and conditioner, I experienced a noticeable difference in the smoothness of my hair. My hair stayed down but still maintained body and bounce. After a quick check of ingredients, I would bet that’s due to the hydrolyzed keratin in the shampoo. It not only protects hair, but forms a strong, flexible shield on the hair’s surface. Review: Mama Mio Lucky Legs Cooling Serum

After long weekdays in high heels, followed by a fun night jamming out in Zumba class, combined with weekends full of chasing after my son—my legs and feet are TIRED by the time I get to bed at night.  Mama Mio Lucky Legs Cooling Serum is the perfect solution to perk up tired gams.

This 3.4oz bottle is chock full of yarrow, V-Tonic (a special blend of essential oils), spearmint, chamomile and aloe vera to help soothe and revive your legs and feet.  A few minutes after applying it, my feet and legs started to feel invigorated.  There is a nice subtle tingle that make me feel lighter on my feet almost immediately.  One pump per leg does the trick for me.

I even used some of this on my shoulder after a tough work out one night—it provided the perfect balance of soothing sensations without being overly tingly.  Having trouble envisioning what I’m talking about? Imagine BenGay has a cooler, younger sister who smells really good.  That’s Lucky Legs[Read more…]

Review: Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser

Sometimes, when I’m in a cinch I’ll use baby oil to remove my eye make-up.  It usually plasters my eyelids shut and I make a mental note to move “buy eye make-up remover” to the top of my To-Do List.  So I’ll be honest, when I saw Talika’s Lash Conditioning Cleanser, I was scared it would be oily and heavy and give me baby oil results.

I’m glad I went against my better judgment and gave this stuff a shot!  It did an amazing job of removing my eye make-up.  I always have the toughest time getting my dark eyeliner to come off, but Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser went right to work and gently removed make-up from every nook and cranny with no extra rubbing involved.  On top of that, my eyes weren’t heavy or greasy either.

Sometimes it is the simple things that really put a smile on my face and there are a few simple things about this product I felt compelled to point out.  First, I used it for almost two weeks and it looked like I’d hardly used it.  This makes me happy because I know it will last a long time.  Second, there is a little cap that is attached to the pump spout.  This means no more pump crust!  This makes me VERY happy! And third, in addition to removing your make-up, Talika gives your lashes an extra benefit of silk proteins and cornflower extract to help strengthen them.  Again, I am smiling from ear-to-ear.

Bottom Line…

Unless you have a baby, toss out the baby oil and add “Buy Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser” to the top of your To-Do List.

Currently Loving: Four Truffles Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer Serum

In the beauty industry, argan oil is the Cadillac of beauty products.  It has an amazing reputation for moisturizing everything from cuticles to split ends and everything in between.  It’s rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin F—an all-rockstar combination of skin replenishing vitamins that help repair, protect, and hydrate.

The difficult thing about argan oil is finding a reputable product.  Like a Cadillac, it fetches a pretty price. Unfortunately, because of that, many companies sell products that are solely listed as “argan oil” but once you read the label, you find tons of other additives and fillers.  Four Truffles Daily Moisturizer Argan Oil Serum is just that—argan oil.  Well, that and a touch of lavender…but no fillers, I promise!   [Read more…]

Review: Relastin Eye Silk

They say your eyes are the window to your soul, but sometimes they’re a red flag for your age too!  Crow’s feet, dark circles, sagging…eh, you get the idea. I’m an eye cream junkie, so when a sample of Relastin Eye Silk came my way, I was eager to try it!

Relastin Eye Silk boasts that it will help improve your skin’s elasticity and firmness by promoting a natural protein called elastin, which contributes to your skin’s own youthfulness.

I’ve had my share of eye products come my way—some are heavy, some are greasy, some tingle, some are gooey.  This stuff is hands-down the best consistency I’ve ever experienced.  This featherweight gel is unlike anything else you may have felt.  It sinks right into your skin and goes right to business, diminishing wrinkles, reducing puffiness and giving dark circles the boot.  Many eye products suggest you apply them in the morning and at night, but usually they’re so dense and greasy your eye make-up doesn’t stand a chance of staying on after a morning application.  Relastin Eye Silk not only doesn’t leave residue, but it almost instantly smooths your eye area so make-up application is actually easier!  I felt like my eye make-up actually stayed on better when I used this underneath.  [Read more…]

Review: AVEENO Positively Ageless Exfoliating Cleanser

I’ve been really good about not falling in love with facial cleansers because it seems like every time I love one, it gets discontinued. Therefore, for the last several years my relationship with my face suds has been strictly platonic.  Good morning, wash my face. Good night, wash my face.  Nothing more. Sometimes I don’t even take my facial cleanser when I travel; I just use what is in the hotel. Why? Because I never know when I’ll go to the store to buy a new bottle AND IT WILL BE GONE. It will have left me with no Dear John note, no reason. It will just up and disappear.

But now I think I’ve fallen in love again and this time I’ve fallen HARD!

The name of my new facial suitor is Aveeno Positively Ageless Exfoliating Cleanser[Read more…]

The Tale of a Bikini Waxing Newbie, at a European Waxing Center

Being a gal with incredibly sensitive skin, I have been in pursuit of the ideal solution to a bumpy, razor-rashed bikini line for a very long time. I have always been turned away from waxing, since you have to let your hair grow for at least a couple of weeks, and I just couldn’t bring myself to do that. Until now—with the turn of the New Year, and my resolution being to “try new things”. So, at 35-years-old, I was going to get my first professional bikini wax! Having to ditch my razor for two weeks was torture, but I toughed it out for the promise of at least two weeks of baby-skin smoothness to follow.

I didn’t want to just go to a little hole-in-the-wall, nail salon/waxing/Botox/facial/massage place—I wanted a premium experience. After reading many reviews, I was convinced to try European Wax Center. With over 300 locations nationwide, I felt pretty comfortable having my first waxing experience there. They’re also pretty confident that clients will make their closest center their first choice for waxing services—they even offer your first wax FREE. I was pretty intrigued by their 4-step waxing system that used hard wax instead of strips, and promised to be virtually pain free. Now, “virtually” is the operative word in that sentence.  [Read more…]

Review: Hampton Sun Sunless Tanning Gel & Serious Shimmer Cooling Spray in Pearl and Bronze

I would consider myself a connoisseur of sunless tanning products. If it promises to give me a golden glow, without smelling like cat urine, I’ve likely tried it. When I first heard of Hampton Sun Sunless Tanning Gel, and Serious Shimmer Cooling Spray, I was so excited to get my mitts on them both! With a sunless tanner that promises “an ultra natural looking, streak-free tan… and no lingering scent”, I already had visions of my pasty skin morphing into a gorgeous golden bronze right before my eyes.

The texture of the sunless tanner was smooth and very easy to apply. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a color-guide that shows you where you have applied it, but the consistency is very user-friendly, and the resulting color is streak-free and even, if you follow the directions. Within two hours after the initial application, a pretty tan began to emerge. Though the initial application had a very soft, clean scent, I was disappointed that as the color developed, the typical DHA-skin reaction smell had become apparent. It did fade about four hours after application, and the resulting color—though subtle, lasted about five days.  [Read more…]

Review: David Evangelista Beauty Pouf! Texturizing & Volumizing Powder and Hush… Volumizing Dry Shampoo

My hair is so thin and fine, that nearly every time my stylist blows it out, she remarks at how wispy it is. “I KNOW! I deal with it every single day!” I have to keep myself from shrieking at her. But she’s a sweetheart, and adorable, and let’s face it, she patiently puts up with the constant changing and revolving of my hairstyles to try to accommodate my fringy, stubborn tresses.  After watching the HSN presentation for David Evangelista Pouf! Texturizing & Volumizing Powder and Hush… Volumizing Dry Shampoo, I held hope that I too could have voluptuous strands someday.

On the day after shampooing and conditioning (I’m usually a dedicated cleanse and condition every day type of gal, but with the promise of a thick and healthy mop, I will break my vow), I flipped my head upside down and sprayed my roots and crown with the dry shampoo. After letting it work its magic for a minute or so, I combed it through from roots to tips to ensure an even application. Suddenly my ‘greasies’ were tamed without the powder or cakey residue that some dry shampoos can leave behind. It also had a clean scent, and convinced me that a dry shampoo can actually make my hair feel clean without weighing it down.  [Read more…]
