T3 Twirl 360 Motion-Sensing, Auto-Rotating 1.25” Curling Iron Review, Photos

t3 micro Twirl 360 curling iron

I’m one of those gals that has several curling irons and sets of hot rollers. Why? Because I swear I have some of the most difficult hair in the world to hold a style, let alone a head full of Victoria’s Secret model-like curls. I keep buying irons and hot roller sets  — because each new one I see has the branding and packaging to make me think, OH! THIS will finally be the one!

Womp womp womp.

That’s why my bathroom cabinet is full of tangled cords in a curling iron graveyard. I only have one that works to my liking to be honest, and it snags the heck out of my hair. So when I was offered the opportunity to try the new T3 Twirl 360 Motion-Sensing Auto-Rotating Iron — I figured that nothing bad could happen — and it may be the answer to my problems. I had nothing to lose!

This is a new, one-of-a-kind curling iron, because it has gyroscopic-technology. To explain it a little better — do you know how your smartphone automatically changes the screen layout from portrait to landscape when you hold your phone at different angles? This is kind of the same idea behind the technology of the T3 Twirl 360.

I Found Salon-Worthy Haircolor, and You Don’t Have to Be a Professional to Buy it!

age beauiful results

It’s been about 10 years since I stopped working behind the chair, but as a colorist at heart — I’m always trying to bring you affordable ways to help maintain your mane. One of those ways can be found in the color aisle at Sally Beauty, within the AGEbeautiful Anti-Aging Haircolor Collection.

age beaker

As we age, inevitably, our hair does too. It can become thin, coarse, wiry, dull, and eventually — grey. It’s the grey part that usually has us running for the hills for a box of haircolor the fastest. But what if I told you I found a salon results-driven brand that can address all five signs of aging hair, in a variety of colors and formulas that suit you?  [Read more…]

What’s New: Color Wow Brass Banned Correct & Perfect Mousse / Dark Hair & Blonde Hair Formulas

Color Wow brass banned mousses

Perfect timing! Especially since we were just talking about the cons of going blonde—you’ll definitely need a product to help with the undesirable brassy tones that start to manifest themselves once the elements and water start hitting your hair. Color Wow recently released two formulas of color-toning mousse that utilize basic color theory to temporarily help neutralize brassy hues in blonde and dark hair, Brass Banned Correct & Perfect Mousse.

Brass Banned for Blonde Hair dispenses as a lavender-hued styling mousse, which should help camouflage brassy tones for blondes, while Brass Banned for Dark Hair should do the same for brunettes with its vibrant teal hue. If your hair is color-treated, the chances are the color shifts over time; due to oxidation, and exposure to the minerals in water and everyday elements like the sun.

color wow back

In most cases, just the tap water you wash your hair with is the offending party, causing your expensive dye job to change colors, often shifting orange. Especially for platinum blondes, this is the worst! You’ll need some kind of violet-tinted hair product to help tame those brassy tones. With Brass Banned, you can combine the styling benefits of a medium-hold mousse with a temporary violet-based toner.  [Read more…]

The Truth About Going (Very) Blonde

kim kardashian blonde hair

Yesterday, you more than likely witnessed the debut of some MAJOR hair color changes on two closely-watched celebrities. I know it’s no big secret that people go blonde every day. At one time (albeit, a long time ago), I made a living off of it. But it’s a proven fact that the minute someone high profile debuts a creative hairstyle or color change that’s outside of their usual look, trend “forecasts” get turned on their heads.

Here we go again!

What scares me about this level of high-lift blonde trend, is that many people flock to the nearest consumer-accessible beauty supply; loading up on plastic gloves, 40 volume developer, and whatever the best, most powerful powdered “bleach” is that the employee promises will get the job done at home. While I’m not here to discourage your wildest, blondest dreams—I am here to help you realize your expectations, and save you pain, potential scalp injury, heartache, time, and money. Here are some real, no BS truths about going very blonde.

Remember Vidal Sassoon Cherry Almond Shampoo? Well, it’s Coming Back!

vidal sassoon cherry almond collection

I couldn’t have been more than 7 years-old at the time, but man do I remember the cherry almond scent of the original Vidal Sassoon shampoo as if it were yesterday! I just read something that made my heart skip a beat. It’s BACK! But with a caveat…it seems as though the formula has been updated. Fair enough, considering it’s 2015. I honestly don’t want my shampoo to treat my hair like it’s 1983! Way too many scientific advances in cosmetic chemistry have been made since then, and my hair is so thankful for that.

These are the deets I have so far, directly from Vidal Sassoon:

The original Cherry Almond Collection first launched in 1971 and made its mark on the hair care industry. Celebrate the iconic scent that started it all with the new Vidal Sassoon Cherry Almond Collection. Back by popular demand, the moisturizing and cleansing Cherry Almond Shampoo and Conditioner offer an updated formula with the classic fragrance you remember.  [Read more…]

Easy DIY New Year’s Eve Party Hairstyle Tutorials

diy hair tools

I really admire the talent on YouTube. There are some amazing content out creators there, I just wish I had enough time in the day to watch all of the videos I’d like! To get you ready for New Year’s Eve parties, (and to save you money at the salon on a fancy hairstyle), I’ve compiled some of my favorite, easy-to-do hair tutorials that I’m confident you can recreate yourself at home.

But first, I wanted to share some of my own personal favorite products that can help you achieve a lasting style to get you through the night!

  • Grab those bobby pins, you’re going to need them!
  • A dry shampoo really helps add texture to your hair and gives it that second-day feel. Hairstyles always stay better on second-day hair for some reason! So if you struggle with fine hair, or just washed your hair—try Pantene Dry Shampoo. They’re affordable, and smell great!
  • A teasing comb. You can find one just about anywhere, but this one from Cricket is easy to use if you’re teasing-challenged like I am!
  • A thermal protectant is super important prior to blow drying your hair. Especially if you plan on hitting it with the high heat of a curling iron after. I like the Tea-Lightfully Clean Blow Dry Prep Mist from Herbal Essences, it will help protect against thermal damage, without weighing down your hair.
  • If you’re planning on any of the easy updos in the videos below, try clear ouchless elastics. If you have dark hair, opt for black ones instead, just in case they peek through. Goody makes suitable ones that you can find at Target.
  • A curling iron or curling wand. I’m a recent convert to curling wands. It took me a bit to get the hang of them, but I’m a fan of my purple one from NuMe.
  • The finishing touch—you’ll need a hairspray that’s strong enough to keep your style all night, but not so strong that your hair looks too stiff. I love L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray, because it’s still soft and brushable, but yields great hold.

Check out these great DIY hair tutorials I found on YouTube!  [Read more…]

My fave pick is this awesome haircare gift trio with their signature shampoo, detangler, and beach wave spray in their Thai Coconut fragrance. Olive Oil Bath Soaps from An Ancient Art Handmade Soap Company

My amazing hairstylist turned me on to the soap bars from this tiny artisanal shop out of Strawn, Texas. She gifted me a bar of their handmade Red Wine soap, and I immediately ordered more! I love supporting this small business, they have over 30 scents available in their handmade olive oil soap formula that I’m obsessed with! You’ve got to look at the list of soap fragrance varieties they offer. I’m also a fan of their Vitality Cuticle Cream, and their lip balms. I’ve got the banana lip balm on my desk (which I use very often), and due to its high shea butter and olive oil content, my lips feel like buttah! Visit the “Hair Food Truck” in the Los Angeles-area on 10/30 for FREE Hair Food!

clairol hair food

I know, Hair Food? It sounds kinda funny! But it’s a new hair product collection that I’ve spied at Target in the past month, and I’ve had pretty strong willpower not to purchase it yet—because heaven only knows I have enough shampoo for a small country. (I do often share with shelters in need—and with my friends—I swear!)

I finally got my hands on a few of the products last night, and I’m not quite ready to offer you a review just yet since I’ve only used a few of them once. (They do all smell extra delicious, by the way!) The good news is, there’s a special event this Thursday (10/30) in Hollywood for all my Los Angelenos and SoCal friends. Go visit the Hair Food Truck at Hollywood Blvd. & North Highland Ave., and you’ll score a FREE full-size Hair Food product, a tote bag, and a coupon! The Hair Food Truck will be there from 11:00AM to 5:00PM.

Local tip, because I absolutely LOATHE driving and parking in Hollywood:

There is a Hollywood/Highland stop on the Metro Red Line train that is SUPER easy to access, and takes you right there! When I go to Hollywood, it’s the only way I’ll go, because it’s SO easy.

Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron Review, Photos

Add some VOLOOM!

You guys, I’ve been dying to show this to you for months, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy.

I’ve been using this iron since last summer since I was one of the first to have it, and I HAVE to tell you all about it. It’s called VOLOOM, and it’s a flat-haired babe’s best friend. Have you seen how fine my hair is? Well, you’ll see below in the “before” photo, that it’s flat as a board. No lie. If you’ve seen photos of me out there on the interwebs with volume and curls, it comes with lots of product, teasing, and zhushing—and often professional styling. (Or however you spell that crazy word that means shaping and improving your hair with a little messy zhush with your hands.) For the record, I dislike teasing my hair, and will shy away from it whenever possible!

Now, I can get volume without all the pomp and circumstance. I swear it!

No crazy products involved here—it’s just this unique iron. Unlike a flat iron, this is a volumizing iron. It has rows of deep squares that meet up. I call them a waffle weave pattern, that takes the hair you have inside of it, and crimps it for lack of a better word. But believe me, it’s not like those crimping irons in the 80’s. And yes, I did use one of those in high school. Oh, memories.

Here’s a closer look at VOLOOM:

The features:

  • Deep grooves that catch hair on both sides for maximum volume effect—this creates volume “pockets” due to its beveled edges
  • Power button with + and – buttons for temperature control
  • Iron can reach 320-350F for fine, damaged, or chemically treated hair; 350-370F for thick hair; and 370-390F for coarse or curly hair — these are the recommended settings for safety
  • Digital temperature display so you know when your iron is safe to use for your hair type
  • Locking mechanism to keep your iron closed for compact storage
  • It also comes with sectioning clips, a teasing brush (should you need it), and a case
