MAC Cosmetics Giambattista Valli Lipstick Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Giambattista Valli Lip Collection

MAC Giambattista Valli Collection

From MAC:

Couture fashion designer Giambattista Valli brings his effortless elegance and celebration of the female form to a collection of timeless lipsticks. In the coral of Tats, pale pink of Bianca B, pure peach of Margherita, regal red of Charlotte and dark cherry of Eugenie, lips take on an air of sophistication. M·A·C Crystal Glaze Gloss adds a chic touch by transforming any lipstick colour with a unique pearlescent finish.

I have really been looking forward to this release! Not only am I inspired by an unparalleled love for color, I love the philosophy behind Valli’s work. I thought these pieces from his interview with MAC were telling:

WHY LIPS?
I was watching David Letterman’s show with Anna Wintour promoting the very first year of Fashion’s Night Out. Letterman asked, “How can you change the wardrobe of a woman with just $20?” Anna replied, “You go out and pick a brand new lipstick.” I thought that was so brilliant. So my idea was to put together the Valli colours — reds, pinks and fuchsia — hues that fit any kind of personality.

WHEN YOU WERE STYLING THE FLOWERS FOR THE CAMPAIGN VISUAL, YOU MENTIONED YOU WANT TO BE A FLORIST. IS THAT SOMETHING YOU’D LIKE TO DO?
I love the idea that you’re walking through a garden and these flowers get stuck on your dress. They’re not static flowers. Instead of putting a dress on her, it’s a way to dress her. It is more about the emotion than iconic beauty. It’s a gesture about sentiment, about feminine posture.

HAVE FLOWERS ALWAYS BEEN AN INSPIRATION FOR YOU?
Oh yes. Always. I cannot live without nature. It’s much more powerful than human beings. The colour of nature is the most inspiring.

YOU CALL YOUR WOMEN YOUR “VALLI” GIRLS”–
It was a joke! It started when I was in LA, when I had all my friends come in for the beginning of a very special show. I joked about the “Valli Girls” and the “Valley Girls.” We grew up together; Eugenie, Tatiana, Margherita, Bianca, Charlotte, and I…and now they are my Valli Girls.

Now, let’s get to it!

MAC Giambattista Valli Bianca B

Bianca B — pale white-pink matte

I have to say, I was most saddened by Bianca B. She made my lips look super dry, even though I exfoliated first. I consider myself pretty apt in the exfoliation and hydration department, but Bianca B. was determined to make my lips say otherwise. This is a fun, editorial color — but it won’t translate in real life for me. Boo.  [Read more…]

ColourPop In Bloom Collection by Jamie Greenberg Review, Photos, Swatches

colour pop in bloom collection jamie Greenberg

In the past few months, I’ve seen the popularity of ColourPop explode. If you’ve heard of the line before, the chances are you already own several pieces and are loving them dearly. If this is your first experience — I wouldn’t be surprised if you wind up with several of their goodies in your makeup collection ASAP.

Currently, you’ll find the brand online only, and at this time they specialize in lip colors, cheek colors, and eyeshadows. The prices are insanely low — just $5-$8 for each item! The colors and pigmentation are incredible, and I’ve yet to hear a single complaint about their products. I finally had my first experience with a few items from the line, as they’re doing some awesome collaborations with some of the best movers and shakers in the beauty world.

This is the new In Bloom Collection, created with one of my favorite makeup artists, Jamie Greenberg. Not only is she behind some of the hottest red carpet looks of many of today’s most photographed starlets — but she is ridiculously funny, incredibly sweet, and super talented. I just love everything about her! (Her YouTube channel is a riot.) Let’s check out her collection that will get you through spring and summer (and likely get you hooked on Colour Pop).  [Read more…]

It’s Back! Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipstick & Nail Color in ‘Gash’ — But Hurry!

Urban Decay Gash lipstick nail polish

This oldie but goodie is back again, for a super limited time — and with a matching nail polish! This is Gash, the iconic, old-school lipstick shade that Urban Decay retired long ago — but when we UD junkies get restless — they sometimes give into our cravings and re-release it again for a hot second or two. We’re also graced with a hot nail color too, in Gash! Let’s take a closer look…

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Gash

The Gash Revolution Lipstick formula is far from the days of 90’s version Gash (in texture and packaging), but not color. It’s so much more hydrating, long-wearing, and purely pigmented in my opinion. Revolution Lipstick is one of my favorite lipstick formulas of all time, and ever since they released the new formulation a few years ago — I’ve collected my fair share of shades. I highly recommend!  [Read more…]

MAC Viva Glam x Miley Cyrus Lipstick & Lipglass Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick lipglass

Even if you’re not a Miley Cyrus fan, please hang in there and read this!

I know she’s not exactly my cup of tea either—and I received some not-so-nice comments about her new MAC Viva Glam collaboration when I posted the news of this upcoming release on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram last year. But I have to admit you guys, this color is HOT STUFF, and Viva Glam does SO much good for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

I try not to think of the spokesperson when these collections come out every year, I see so much more than their imagery promoting the product. Here’s why…

As always, every cent from every Viva Glam lip color goes directly to the MAC AIDS Fund. The organization helps women, men and children living with, and affected by HIV/AIDS. I’m forever a Viva Glam fan!

Just one Viva Glam Lipstick can equal…

  • 1 rapid oral HIV test
  • 8 nutritious, home-cooked meals
  • 1 school stationery starter pack for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • 1 vegetable garden starter pack for a community garden
  • 2 safer sex kits
  • 1 month of personal transportation to and from doctors visits
  • 2 hours of childcare for a woman during a medical appointment
  • 14 blood glucose monitoring strips
  • 1 pair of shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • …and more!

See why I wanted you to stay with me? There’s a bigger picture here! With that, meet Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick and Lipglass, which will be released here in the States at all MAC locations on January 22nd, and online at maccosmetics.com on January 20th. (The press info I received says that this will be released internationally on February 12th.) Let’s take a closer look!

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick ($16) is a super hot pink lippie with an Amplified formula. I’ve always associated the Amplified formula with excellent opaque coverage, creamy texture, and a generous amount of wear-time. It was love at first sight, from the moment I popped off the cap! I’m partial to hot pink shades like this already, but the comfortable, non-drying texture, and 4½ hours of wear I got from the lipstick just sealed the deal. I did have a little bit of a pink stain left behind, but it wasn’t substantial.  [Read more…]

Pantone Color of the Year 2015: 6 Marsala Lipsticks You’ll Love!

pantone marsala banner pantone marsala lipstick

By now you’ve heard the word…

Pantone’s color forecast for 2015 is out, and the top pick for their Color of the Year is Marsala. The 90’s version of me couldn’t be more pleased! I can’t tell you how many tubes of Revlon’s “Toast of New York” I went through, but I can tell you I’ll be purchasing my first tube of it in almost 20 years the next time I hit up the drugstore. I think Marsala is probably best described as a rosy-brown shade, but can go as far as deep wine tones.

With my Brenda Walsh-era bangs, I absolutely loved everything earth-toned—along with body suits and jean shorts—but let’s forget that part. Marsala reminds me of my days in high school in the 90’s, listening to Seattle-based bands on cassette tape in my first car, and the era of the Supermodel. (CINDY! LINDA! NAOMI!)

In honor of “90’s me” (and Pantone’s top color pick for 2015), I bring you six shades of Marsala-hued lipsticks to love. I chose a variety of matte, sheer, and uber-pigmented lipstick options for you, and you have plenty of time to decide what’s the best fit for your beauty arsenal in 2015!

strip

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Strip

For some, I know that wearing a wine color on your lips will feel like being pushed head first into the deep end of a pool in the middle of winter. So let’s take it easy with a more sheer shade to break you into the Marsala category gently. Strip is a lovely brown based mauve that will look great when worn solo, and if you fill your lips in first with the 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Manic, you can really amp it up when you’re feeling more courageous. The Revolution Lipstick formula is a beauty junkies’ favorite due to its lush, hydrating feel—making it perfect for the lip-drying effects of harsh winter weather. Lipstick—$22, Lip Pencil—$20, urbandecay.com   [Read more…]

Perricone MD — No Makeup Skincare — No Lipstick Lipstick & No Blush Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

perricone MD No Blush No Lipstick

Perricone MD No Makeup Makeup

Sometimes I don’t want to wear makeup at all, but at the same time I want to look polished and not like I rolled out of bed. I’ve figured out a few tricks by now, but these new products from Perricone MD make it so easy. Their No Makeup Skincare line at Sephora is already a big hit, and I recently tried two of the products out to see if they live up to the hype. Let’s go!

Perricone MD No Lipstick Lipstick

No Lipstick Lipstick

First up is No Lipstick Lipstick. It really isn’t a lipstick (hence No Lipstick)—but it’s actually an anti-aging lip treatment that lends a glossy, smooth finish in a shade that’s like your lips—but better. I find it to be very nourishing and hydrating, and it almost feels like a lip butter. Perricone MD is known for their luxe skincare products, so it’s only natural that they’d include some of those innovative ingredients in their color cosmetic offerings.

It’s a solid-to-serum product, and contains hyaluronic acid and tocotrienols to add suppleness. It also contains a non-chemical mineral-based SPF 15 to protect against UVA and UVB rays, so you know I’m happy about that. (Sunscreen for LIFE!)   [Read more…]

A Whole ‘Lotta Love for Kelly Yum-Yum from The MAC Osbournes Collection

mac kelly yum yum lipstick 1

Without a doubt, I’m super cray over my favorite piece from the Kelly installment of the recent MAC Osbournes CollectionKelly Yum-Yum lipstick. Okay, so bummer. It’s currently sold out on maccosmetics.com, but that doesn’t mean you can’t charm your way to a tube at a MAC counter somewhere; either at a MAC store, or a department store with a MAC counter. You’d be surprised what you can get with a little bit of sugar versus vinegar! I can’t promise anything, but I swear it will never hurt to try.

mac kelly yum yum lipstick packaging

Like the rest of Kelly’s part of the collection, the components are purple that mimic her various shades of purple hair she likes to rock. It’s also emblazoned with her signature in red. The interior says “MAC” in purple on the black area where you twist the tube.  I like the small touches of detail of the packaging with this celeb-inspired collection.   [Read more…]

Sneak Peek: MAC Lorde Collection Lipstick — Pure Heroine

MAC Lorde Pure Heroine Lipstick
Say what you will, but I love Lorde. This teenager is wise well beyond her years, and rocks a unique signature style that I totally appreciate in a world of carbon copy pop princesses. This summer, MAC will release Pure Heroine—a deep amplified plum lipstick, along with the Rapidblack Penultimate Eye Liner (permanent line) as the Lorde Collection.

MAC Lorde Collection

I’ve applied it twice in the past 24 hours, and I can tell you so far that it’s not super drying like most shades in this color family. Pure Heroine has a nice slick finish with a purple-plum payoff on my skin tone. I think it will look more like an authentic deep Lorde-like shade when paired with a deep lip liner. (I’ve read people recommending several—take MAC Vino or Nightmoth for instance.)  [Read more…]

What’s New: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Gash (LE) Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Gash

About a zillion years ago, when I had my first big girl job with a big girl paycheck, I was obsessed with this new brand called Urban Decay. The line wasn’t very large at the time, but the small offering of shades was very risqué for the time period. I wore Gash lipstick, and you couldn’t tell me ANYTHING! I thought I was just the hottest thing going, in a time period where pretty rose pinks and light browns were prevalent. It really was like my sex-say lipstick training wheels! I eventually moved on to other deep and moody lipsticks after my dark shade introduction, and Gash was eventually retired. Tears were shed.

Until now!

Urban Decay Gash Revolution Lipstick

Gash has long been a favorite of Wende Zomnir (she holds all the power since she’s the brand’s co-founder and CCO). Girlfriend has such rockin’ taste. (You should see her in person! Style out of control!) As it turns out—she really missed Gash too. (And lucky US!) Here’s a shade a LOT of us are happy she’s revisiting. Thanks, Wende! [Read more…]
