Sneak Peek: MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick Lipglass

I know there are Miley Cyrus fans out there, and for some of you — she’s not your cup of tea. That’s totally okay! But what I’m hoping is that you’ll appreciate and support her second Viva Glam effort — Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick and Lipglass. (You can check out the first Viva Glam Miley shade here!)

I write a very similar post with every Viva Glam release, so if you’re already aware of the good a single Viva Glam Lipstick can do, spread the word! If not, I hope this inspires you to get involved since 100% of every Viva Glam purchase goes directly to the MAC AIDS Fund.

Just one Viva Glam Lipstick can equal…

  • 1 rapid oral HIV test
  • 8 nutritious, home-cooked meals
  • 1 school stationery starter pack for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • 1 vegetable garden starter pack for a community garden
  • 2 safer sex kits
  • 1 month of personal transportation to and from doctors visits
  • 2 hours of childcare for a woman during a medical appointment
  • 14 blood glucose monitoring strips
  • 1 pair of shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • …and more!

With that, I want to share a sneak peek of the newest hue. This time, Viva Glam has gone orange! I recall lots of pinks, neutrals, and reds in the shades of Viva Glam past, but not an orange like this. I opened the tube and thought to myself it would never work for me, but I received so many compliments while I was testing it last week!  [Read more…]

Get Emily Ratajkowski’s Gorgeous, Neutral Matte Look!

get the look

You might remember Emily Ratajkowski’s gorgeous, fresh face from Gone Girl, and now she’s starring in We Are Your Friends. At last night’s red carpet premiere, she rocked very neutral, almost 90’s-inspired and mostly-matte makeup that turned heads. (Mine included!) Makeup artist Jo Baker tells us how to get Emily’s perfectly polished look, so you can turn some heads of your own.

ud look

Jo tells us, “It perfectly bridges the summer-to-fall seasonal transition. The nude tone (Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked) feels light and fresh for the final days of summer, while the subdued texture with a slight gleam adds an edge of fall’s more sophisticated look. A strong brow (defined with Urban Decay Brow Beater and Brow Tamer) balances the eye and lip to highlight her features and keeps everything looked pulled-together.”  [Read more…]

MAC Cosmetics Giambattista Valli Lipstick Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Giambattista Valli Lip Collection

MAC Giambattista Valli Collection

From MAC:

Couture fashion designer Giambattista Valli brings his effortless elegance and celebration of the female form to a collection of timeless lipsticks. In the coral of Tats, pale pink of Bianca B, pure peach of Margherita, regal red of Charlotte and dark cherry of Eugenie, lips take on an air of sophistication. M·A·C Crystal Glaze Gloss adds a chic touch by transforming any lipstick colour with a unique pearlescent finish.

I have really been looking forward to this release! Not only am I inspired by an unparalleled love for color, I love the philosophy behind Valli’s work. I thought these pieces from his interview with MAC were telling:

WHY LIPS?
I was watching David Letterman’s show with Anna Wintour promoting the very first year of Fashion’s Night Out. Letterman asked, “How can you change the wardrobe of a woman with just $20?” Anna replied, “You go out and pick a brand new lipstick.” I thought that was so brilliant. So my idea was to put together the Valli colours — reds, pinks and fuchsia — hues that fit any kind of personality.

WHEN YOU WERE STYLING THE FLOWERS FOR THE CAMPAIGN VISUAL, YOU MENTIONED YOU WANT TO BE A FLORIST. IS THAT SOMETHING YOU’D LIKE TO DO?
I love the idea that you’re walking through a garden and these flowers get stuck on your dress. They’re not static flowers. Instead of putting a dress on her, it’s a way to dress her. It is more about the emotion than iconic beauty. It’s a gesture about sentiment, about feminine posture.

HAVE FLOWERS ALWAYS BEEN AN INSPIRATION FOR YOU?
Oh yes. Always. I cannot live without nature. It’s much more powerful than human beings. The colour of nature is the most inspiring.

YOU CALL YOUR WOMEN YOUR “VALLI” GIRLS”–
It was a joke! It started when I was in LA, when I had all my friends come in for the beginning of a very special show. I joked about the “Valli Girls” and the “Valley Girls.” We grew up together; Eugenie, Tatiana, Margherita, Bianca, Charlotte, and I…and now they are my Valli Girls.

Now, let’s get to it!

MAC Giambattista Valli Bianca B

Bianca B — pale white-pink matte

I have to say, I was most saddened by Bianca B. She made my lips look super dry, even though I exfoliated first. I consider myself pretty apt in the exfoliation and hydration department, but Bianca B. was determined to make my lips say otherwise. This is a fun, editorial color — but it won’t translate in real life for me. Boo.  [Read more…]

ColourPop In Bloom Collection by Jamie Greenberg Review, Photos, Swatches

colour pop in bloom collection jamie Greenberg

In the past few months, I’ve seen the popularity of ColourPop explode. If you’ve heard of the line before, the chances are you already own several pieces and are loving them dearly. If this is your first experience — I wouldn’t be surprised if you wind up with several of their goodies in your makeup collection ASAP.

Currently, you’ll find the brand online only, and at this time they specialize in lip colors, cheek colors, and eyeshadows. The prices are insanely low — just $5-$8 for each item! The colors and pigmentation are incredible, and I’ve yet to hear a single complaint about their products. I finally had my first experience with a few items from the line, as they’re doing some awesome collaborations with some of the best movers and shakers in the beauty world.

New Year’s Eve Starry-Eyed Makeup Tutorial from Charlotte Tilbury

charlotte tilbury star eye look

Her makeup line may be new here in the states, but Charlotte Tilbury has been making faces look runway and camera ready for over 20 years, all over the world. Now that her much-coveted line is available at Nordstrom here in the U.S., we can’t get enough. Once I saw this glam-tastic, mesmerizing tutorial for a starry-eyed New Year’s Eve party look, I had to share!

This starry-eyed look was originally created for her friend and supermodel, Kate Moss. Here’s how you can score this festive look, it’s actually quite easy! While you don’t have to use all of Charlotte’s products to get the exact look, I wanted to include them for you, because you’ll probably want to check them out the next time you hit up the makeup counter! I’m a HUGE fan of all of her K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick shades, and her The Retoucher is a favorite concealer of mine. But feel free to sub in the products you think will work!

tarte Sweet Indulgences 3-in-1 Holiday Gift Set for QVC Today’s Special Value for 11/10/14

Tarte Sweet Indulgence 3 in 1 holiday gift set qvc tsv

I’ve been tinkering with tarte’s QVC  Today’s Special Value; it’s the Sweet Indulgences 3-in-1 Holiday Gift Set, and it is bountiful! On 11/10, you can score this phenomenal gift for just $59.94. After Monday—it will go back to regular price. To help you decide if you should make the splurge, I’ve put together the product photos, swatches, and product information. This won’t serve as a full review since I haven’t been able to wear all of these items in the amount of time I’ve had the collection, so please use this as more of a guide than a full review.

This is an easy way to have three individual gifts for about $20 each, or you can gift the whole set together. All three golden leaflet-print boxes slide into a single case. Kind of like a cute little library of makeup treats!

tarte sweet indulgences set

Inside the aqua box, you’ll find…

  • Lipsurgence Lip Gloss in Indulging — soft raspberry
  • Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Wonder — poppy
  • Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Rare — peach nude
  • Amazonian Clay blush in Pampered — melon
  • Amazonian Clay blush in Savored — golden rose

The Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush shades are absolutely gorgeous! I can’t recall ever not liking any that I’ve tried, and these are no exception. I found that the colors really do stay true all day for me. They’re pretty silky to the touch, and aren’t powder-y, but my blush brush is able to pick up a nice deposit of pigment that blends easily into my skin without streaking. I have combination skin, and tend to get oily in my cheeks—so for these not to fade or slip around during the day is a win. That pretty iridescence in the Savored shade is everything!   [Read more…]

My Latest Addiction: Laura Geller Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla

Laura Geller French Vanilla Baked Highlighter

I know the packaging is very unassuming, and you might not realize it yet—but no doubt, my friends. You’re looking at a fantastic multi-tasker. It went Holy Grail status for me just seconds after applying.

Meet Laura Geller’s French Vanilla Baked Highlighter; a silky, sheer beige illuminating powder that can be used just about anywhere!

Laura Geller French Vanilla

  • Using this on the highest part of my cheekbones adds a warm glow that rivals how flattering a dinner by candlelight is to my complexion.
  • Using it solely on my brow bone or as eyeshadow all-over opens up my eye area so that I look awake and refreshed.
  • Wearing alone on the inner corners of my eyes makes my eyes dazzle day or night.
  • Applying it on the bow of my top lip gives my pout definition.
  • Dusting it along my collarbone with an open-neck top or dress gives a slightly defined sheen.
  • Placing it lightly along the bridge of my nose adds a point of light for definition and healthy glow.

I’m sure you can think of a few more ways to make it work!  [Read more…]

L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Hot Mess Review, Photos, Swatches

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint Hot Mess

For weeks, I’ve been hearing around the Blogosphere that the new L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints are dupes of another new lip color product from Too Faced that people have already deemed “holy grail status”, the Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipsticks. While I haven’t had the fortune of trying the Melted lippies yet, I was on a mission to find the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints in my area, because I had to see if they were the bargain that people were saying that they are! (Plus, the shades looked really pretty!)

I wound up locating them at a small accessories boutique, and wouldn’t you know, they only had two left. One was Hot Mess, this fun orange, and the other was Pin-Up, a red in which I have a dozen other similar shades. So Hot Mess it was!

la girl glazed lip paint

From previous research, right off the bat, I can tell you the applicators are totally different on Glazed versus Melted. In fact, I don’t recommend applying Glazed directly out of the tube at all, you’ll make a mess! The product has a little bit of a gloppy consistency if you apply it that way, it’s extremely pigmented, and it’s sure to be applied unevenly and will result in bleeding/migration outside of the lip line.  [Read more…]
