Now that I’m a mom-to-be, I am learning that what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN your body. Unfortunately, there are products out there that contain harmful chemicals and additives that can actually contribute to health problems to your unborn baby. Scary! When a few samples of Original Sprout items fell into my hands I was more than eager to give them a shot. They tout that their products are natural and contain no harmful chemicals. And the extra added bonus is that they promote these products for the whole family by stating “For Babies & Up” right there on the front of the package.
First I tried their Natural Shampoo. My hair felt clean and soft after use, but I really wish I would have had my hands on some of their Deep Conditioner to follow up. My hair is coarse and dry, so it is super rare I just shampoo and go. Keep in mind this shampoo is safe for babies too so it has a rather low suds-factor which is great for youngins, but maybe mom might want some more foam.
After shampooing, I followed up with the Miracle Detangler and let me tell you—the name of this product is accurate. Growing up, I have flashbacks of sitting on the front porch while my mom would spritz detangler in my hair and try to comb out all the knots. Had this stuff been around in the early 80’s I would have been a much happier child—a miracle! It is rather rich, so I felt like the detangler actually added a conditioning element to my hair. One caution though—this stuff is so rich the pump got clogged a few times. I suggest rinsing the nozzle in hot water after every use. [Read more…]
Lately, it’s been no secret that I’m loving argan oil for everything from my head to my toes—and how fitting it is that Argan Magic has a product for every need! I’ve tried every product from their bodycare line, and every single one of them came out a winner, except for one that just wasn’t for me (although there was nothing wrong with it, more on that in a sec). The skin on my hands and feet feels better than it has in a long time, and if the skin on my arms and legs could talk—it would thank me too, I’m sure. Each product in their extensive line contains 100% pure, cold pressed argan oil, which ensures the highest quality yield from this precious nut containing omega fatty acids and vitamin E, which are vital for optimal skin health. Argan Magic has quickly found it’s way to the top of my bodycare product faves, and they’ve also recently released a line of haircare products that I’ve yet to try. I’ll keep you posted on the success department with those when I do!
Zesty Orange Body Scrub
Soothing Skin Salve
Nourishing Bath Oil
Multi-purpose Treatment Oil
Emulsifying Hand Cream
Corrective Heel & Foot Treatment
Body Contour Lotion
Bloomin’ Body Wash
Hydrating Dry Oil Spray
If you had to pick just one product from Argan Magic to try out, I would say that the Emulsifying Hand Cream is great to start out with, but you’ll want to try to get the Soothing Skin Salve for it’s multi-tasking abilities, and the Hydrating Dry Oil Spray to spritz on your body after showering, soon after! Before you know it…you’ll likely be purchasing more products from this line. The only product that wasn’t for me was the Bloomin’ Body Wash, as I prefer a very sudsy and soapy soap, but it will be fantastic for those whose skin needs a delicate, soap-free cleanser.
Availability: ArganMagicBeauty.com; body products $17-$32, hair products $11-$12

Need a holiday gift on a bah-humbug budget, but that’s still merry and bright? Time is totally running out my friends, get on it! Here are five fab gifts under $25 to knock out the rest of your gift list.
This comprehensive kit boasts over 36 eyeshadows, 3 blushes, 16 lip colors, and more! A complete steal at just $22, the recipient will never get bored creating smokey eye looks from a choice of purple, bronze, natural, and classic color combinations.
A trio of incredible smelling, luxurious hand creams—these make an affordable (and nice) gift for holiday hostesses! In three of Tocca’s most-treasured fragrances, this paraben-free formula is enriched with coconut, avocado, and jojoba seed oils to soften hands. Scented after their famous fine fragrances; Cleopatra (grapefruit cucumber), Stella (blood orange), and Florence (Orris rose), these might be hard to give away. Better get two!
It’s not every day that you get to take a look inside the kit of a professional makeup artist, so when pro Iris Moreau was offering up a few of the secrets inside of hers, you know I had to take a peek! Here, Moreau shares some of her double-duty diva faves…
This gorgeous, highlighting cream from MAC is filled with soothing botanicals, vitamins, and green tea that refresh and brighten tired, dry skin. It’s iridescent particles diffuse and reflect light, and add a soft shimmery glow wherever you dab it on.
I love this all-purpose cream stick from NARS! I use it on eyes, lips, cheeks, and body to accent, contour and highlight. It glides on effortlessly and adds soft transparent color wherever applied. My personal favorites: Copacabana, and Orgasm.
With 11 gorgeous tints to choose from in everything from sheer corals to beautiful berries, and juicy plums; these amazing little liquid stains from Tini Beauty add the perfect pretty “flush” to lips and cheeks. I use them often on my shoots with kids to give them a fresh glow, without looking like they’re wearing makeup.
Sorry Glee and Gossip Girl—this week’s most enthralling television time-slot belonged to two of the most influential media moguls in the world; in the same hour on one stage: Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey.
Martha appeared on Oprah earlier this week to speak candidly about her incredible comeback (Stewart served 5 months in prison in 2004 for securities fraud), share some of her favorite crafting tips, and dish out some pretty incredible grilled cheese recipes. And of all people, Martha would never be one to show up empty-handed to her hostess’ home, right? So naturally, she brought along a thoughtful custom gift basket with several of her personal favorite products that she thought Oprah would love too. Of special interest to me however were those Mario Badescu skin care products she gestured towards. Oprah replied, “Yes. I love these products!”
I think it’s safe to say we all know about the power of The Oprah Effect. (Oprah’s Favorite Things, anyone?) I’m happy to say that I’m a huge fan of several Mario Badescu products myself! If you’re curious about the specific Mario products that Martha gifted Oprah in her gift basket, say no more… here they are:
- A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap ($8)
- Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater ($7)
- Special Hand Cream with Vitamin E ($8)
- Cellufirm Drops ($25)

I’ve really liked some Garnier facial cleansers in the past, and I’ve even gotten my brother and my husband hooked on the new Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Intense Cleanse Shampoo—they tell me it ROCKS! But I’m putting it out there into the universe that I have found the most perfect basic daytime moisturizer for my own needs, and it has come from the most unlikely of places when you consider my borderline-obsessive expensive moisturizer history. It’s from Garnier, it’s under $10, and you can buy it at the drugstore (and even some supermarkets). Garnier Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV Lotion SPF 15 is one of three skincare products in their new Moisture Rescue collection. You’ll also find a new facial cleanser and gel-cream moisturizer which I do like—but I have to sing the praises here of what turned out to be the hero product of the three in my opinion.
