I’ve really liked some Garnier facial cleansers in the past, and I’ve even gotten my brother and my husband hooked on the new Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Intense Cleanse Shampoo—they tell me it ROCKS! But I’m putting it out there into the universe that I have found the most perfect basic daytime moisturizer for my own needs, and it has come from the most unlikely of places when you consider my borderline-obsessive expensive moisturizer history. It’s from Garnier, it’s under $10, and you can buy it at the drugstore (and even some supermarkets). Garnier Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV Lotion SPF 15 is one of three skincare products in their new Moisture Rescue collection. You’ll also find a new facial cleanser and gel-cream moisturizer which I do like—but I have to sing the praises here of what turned out to be the hero product of the three in my opinion.
This one goes on my list of intriguing beauty products, for sure! I’m more of a moisturizing cream gal myself, so the thought of an emulsion doesn’t really cross my mind too often. But how can you resist something that actually sparkles? Avon’s ANEW REJUVENATE Night Sapphire Emulsion sparkles aplenty, but that’s not all. I like to think of this facial skincare product as a cross between a serum and a moisturizer, with it’s gelatinous consistency and moist feel. But the other trick it has up it’s sleeve is kind of different…
It’s meant to refine the appearance of enlarged pores and smooth the skin’s texture—while hydrating it too. Pretty nifty, huh? But did it work?
Last month, I profiled Four Truffles as a bodycare brand you must check out. If you haven’t had a chance to check them out yet, you may wish to (and soon), as I’m about to go over their incredible Body Butter collection!
In my opinion, these aren’t at all similar to the body butters you’ll find being sold at body and bath specialty stores. While I like those and there’s nothing wrong with them, I’d like to point out a few key differences that make a Four Truffles Body Butter special:
• Four Truffles has found a way to deliver the benefits of applying such an argan oil, shea butter, and olive oil-rich product to the skin. Using what they describe as a “sophisticated liquid crystal delivery system” (their proprietary 4T PDN Complex), Four Truffles claims that this technology allows the ingredients to mimic the skin’s natural structure.
• Their formulas utilize a rare key ingredient that was once the beauty secret of Moroccan women and often referred to as “liquid gold”; argan oil. Four Truffles sources their share of this indigenous ingredient through an agreement with a women-owned cooperative and is harvested in South Morocco. Their shea butter is also sourced through a women-owned collective in western Africa. Doing this ensures that the product is of the highest quality, while simultaneously supporting the economic growth of rural women.
I recently had the pleasure of learning all about Four Truffles, a brand which I found truly impressive! While this line of skin therapeutic, argan oil-infused, and natural organic bath & body products is completely worthy of a dedicated review (which is coming), I wanted introduce everyone to the real beauty behind the brand first…
Let’s check in with Dilara again! She’s been putting the Instant Beauty serum from Talika to the test:
I love beauty products that accentuate your natural look, and when I tried this stuff, I felt like I hit the jackpot!
Talika Instant Beauty is made mostly of cornflower water and wheat extracts. In the beauty scene, cornflower water is a tried-and-true old school trick for getting rid of puffy eyes. Coupled with wheat extracts—which are rich in Vitamin E—and you’ve got a winning pair. The simple math says it all: Cornflower water + Wheat Extract= reduced puffy eyes, diminished wrinkles and fine lines.
My pal Dilara is definitely the most environmentally responsible friend I have. She even makes her own laundry detergent! She’s also a natural product aficionado, so who better to review the Bioelements All Things Pure line? Here’s the skinny:
I recycle. I eat locally-grown produce and meat. I was bringing my own bags to the grocery store before it was fashionable. I’ve been known to smear an avocado on my face for the sake of beauty. Needless to say, when I got a hold of Bioelements All Things Pure line, I couldn’t wait to try it!
The Bioelements All Things Pure line is certified by the Natural Products Association. That means each of these products meets the standards for natural ingredients, safety, responsibility and sustainability. While some beauty products boast about not testing on animals, these guys go above and beyond that by vowing not to use artificial colorants or synthetic fragrances. They also package their items in glass bottles instead of plastic which is much more environmentally friendly and protects the longevity of the product. The box itself outlines the ingredients one by one along with a description of its beauty benefits. And get this—all the products have about 12 ingredients or less. With so many scary stories you hear in the beauty industry, it makes me feel good to know that I know what I am putting on my face each day.
One of the reasons I didn’t wear sunscreen on my face in my teens and twenties (aside from being oblivious of the dangers of not wearing it), is that I didn’t like the idea of layering another product on my skin. It just seemed like too much. And you know I had to leave room for plenty of pressed powder! Sunscreen just isn’t an option for me anymore, but I do like it to serve more than one purpose. Check out the top picks for multi-tasking facial sunscreens:
• Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 30 — This one scores high because of how quickly it absorbs and how soft it makes my skin feel. Beneficial antioxidant green tea helps protect while aloe vera hydrates and soothes. To have an SPF 30 in such a lightweight moisturizer rocks. Oily and combination skin will appreciate it!
Dilara checks in with a little Billy Jealousy scoop:
Sometimes my hands and fingers are so dry, it is like little pieces of Velcro are attached to my fingertips! If you’re suffering from Velcro hands, banish them with Billy Jealousy’s Golden Gloves Therapeutic Hand Cream. It has all the qualities I look for in a hand product; nothing greasy, nothing smelly (I hate feeling like a cookie after putting on lotion) and something that lasts even after a hand-washing.
I started playing the guitar again so I was welcomed back to the world of calloused fingertips and shredded cuticles. I started slathering Golden Gloves on my hands before bed each night and let it work its magic. It is packed with ingredients like Squalane Oil and Tamanu Oil, both which are proven to naturally help the skin regenerate and heal. One other key ingredient that I think makes a difference is the Monoi de Tahiti oil. It is a Polynesian beauty secret that has been used for years that helps soothes and moisturizes your skin. That is what also gives it a light, clean scent. Besides that light scent, it has no frills—just quality ingredients that to their job.
This product is mainly geared towards males, and it definitely fills the bill with a cool name and sleek packaging, but I am telling you ladies THIS STUFF WORKS. If you plan on getting one for your man, you might as well get one for yourself too because you will be fighting over it!
