JUST when you think you’ve seen it all, you really haven’t! Over the summer I reviewed a few shades of polish from London-based nails inc. during their U.S. debut at Sephora stores—and I was impressed. While the concept of magnetic nail polishes might not be new to most nail polish fanatics, it is new to this nail polish fanatic! New this month at Sephora, I wasted no time opening up this bottle of Magnetic Attraction to have a little nail art fun.
How magnetic nail polish works…
This unique formula has been specially developed with metallic particles to create a pattern on the nail using magnetic forces. As the magnet is held over the nail, the iron powder in the formulation gravitates toward the magnet forming the pattern secretly hidden in the magnet for an astonishing finish. The magnet is included in the cap of the nail polish.
With a strong focus on structure and shades made fashionable in the 40’s and 50’s, Essie captures fall 2011 in this eclectic collection of creamy nail polishes for the season. These classic shades have been reinvented—for the ultimate in femininity, and make it easy to turn your nails into the latest must-have accessory!
“The accessories that you wear and carry say so much about who you are and who you want to be.” Essie Weingarten, founder of essie cosmetics explains. “The same is true with your manicure and your nail color. The first thing a person notices when they meet you for the first time are: your shoes, your handbag and your nails.”

This is it! The end of a year-long run of Serena Williams for OPI nail polishes that launched to coincide with all of the major tennis tournaments. I’ll really miss her fun spin on color, and unconventional ways of pairing up textures and tones—and she made them all work! This duo is the U.S. Glam Slam! Collection, and they’re the final two lacquers in the series.
“OPI and Serena return to our home country for the final launch with two bright, feminine lacquers,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Packed with red and gold micas for intense luster, the Glam Slam! series finishes with two classic, glamorous colors.”
Pros & Bronze is a glittering bronze with hints of rose glitter. This is in a clear base and may require 2-3 coats for full coverage. The two shades definitely make a nice contrast. [Read more…]
So much is going on this month! The end of summer, New York Fashion Week for Spring 2012, and the Miss Universe Pageant is coming up on September 12th. To share in the glitz and the dazzle, who better than OPI capture that glamour?
“Miss Universe is the most popular and publicized beauty pageant in the world,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “We are excited to partner with the Miss Universe Organization, whose contestants provided so much inspiration for rich, high-fashion color.”
Here’s the shade breakdown from OPI:
Congeniality is My Middle Name
And berry-wine shimmer is what I do best!
It’s MY Year
It’s about time for this champagne-rose to shine!
An itsy bitsy teenie weenie vibrant shiny-blue bikini.

Swatches… (each done with two coats)
It’s MY Year is definitely my favorite of the bunch. It takes on hints of violet, then reflects champagne shimmer as you move. This is the must-have of the entire collection! [Read more…]
You all know I’m a sucker for a new nail polish collection, most of them are introduced with 6-to-12 new shades every season, with a few small collections in-between. I thought this was really smart by Nicole by OPI however; only releasing four fall shades to mingle in with their existing color collection at Target. I like doing just four shades, and doing those four shades very well. How about you?
“Nicole by OPI has taken the Something About Spring collection that launched in Target this past March and added new shades to take the line from Spring to Fall,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Target has become a hub for fashionable consumers, which is why the new colors feature some of the season’s hottest hues, like red [I Love You Cherry Much], which will appear this winter as an accent shade to add a bright pop of richly-pigmented color. The neutral trend will also continue, adding elements of taupe, khaki and olive green [Green Up Your Act!] to the current favorites of nude, tan and grey.”

Yesterday, it was only a smart 106° in my neck of the woods. I honestly CANNOT wait until it’s time to bring out my light fall sweaters! I might have to wait a month or so longer for those—but believe it or not, I’m already switching over nail colors. Last week, when I went in for a pedi, my gal was stumped when I brought her a dark and inky blue for my toes. She asked me “What about summer colors?”
“I’m kind of over them,” I replied.
I am, I really am! So trying out these new fall shades from Duri was perfect timing for me, their Wine Tasting Party Collection. This was only my second time trying out the salon/spa brand—you might remember these shades from spring and summer a few months ago that I wore. Wine Tasting Party seems to only have a few wine-based shades, but I’ll forgive them for that. With shade names like Dragontini, it’s easily forgivable. Especially considering how beautiful I think the shade is!

It contains four small polishes in shades; He’s My Boo (orange), Mummy Knows Best (white), I Only Date Werewolves (black), and Zom-body To Love (glow in the dark green). I must be nuts to soak off a perfectly good gel mani a week early—or I really wanted to try out these nail polishes from the UK, by nails inc. as fast as I possibly could. Because that’s what I did! The line launched in the States today, exclusively at Sephora, but nails inc. has been a cult-fave across the pond since 1999. Hmm…I wonder what other cool brands the Brits are keeping from us?
While I’ve only tried three of the core shades; it looks like there’s a great mix of cremes, glitters, special effect polishes and metallics. You’ll find nails inc. has several nail care basics too—like their Vitamin E Oil Pen, and the Kensington Conditioning Hand Cream. The colors in the line look punchy and imaginative, and they’re all named after destinations and streets in the UK. Fun, right?
I had fun experimenting with South Molton Street, Haymarket, Porchester Place; and special effects polishes Fitzroy Square (teal and green glitter), Westminster Bridge (matte top coat), and Camden Crackle Top Coat (similar to OPI Black Shatter).
