Review & Swatches: Le Métier de Beauté Holiday 2012 Nail Lacquer Collection; Christmas Town, Dream Maker, Tinsel Town, & Moon’s Glow

Last month, I was let in on the secret of Le Métier de Beauté. This gorgeous luxury brand boasts a $265 facial peel/mask combo that will knock your socks off, just like it did for me. But admittedly, I’m a complete newbie to the brand. So when these holiday edition nail lacquers arrived; I had to turn to my friend, Pink Sith, someone I consider to be a Le Métier de Beauté aficionado, for help.

Moon’s Glow, Tinsel Town, Christmas Town, Dream Maker

I learned from Ms. Sith herself (in this post right here) that these four lacquers in the holiday 2012 collection are actually broken up into two sub-collections; ‘Deck the Nails’, and ‘Bright as Night’. Allow me to introduce you!  [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez Collection for 2013

Starring…Selena Gomez!

I’m loving the new Selena Gomez nail lacquer collection from Nicole by OPI like a love song! (And who knew?) Yes, I just said that.

“Selena is an ideal partner for Nicole by OPI. Millions of fans love her for the same reasons we do; she’s smart, talented, funny – and has an incredible sense of style,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “She has that classic ‘girl-next-door’ appeal, but she’s also edgy and fun – just like the Nicole consumer.

“Selena is not only a chart-topping singer and actress, she’s also a clothing designer and an active philanthropist,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “Like women around the globe, Selena has many interests and passions; this collection, with its diverse range of hues, offers a perfect match for every occasion!”

Review & Swatches: essie RepStyle Collection

Magnetic attraction….

New from essie, you’ll find their first ever magnetic polish collection in stores this month! These magnetic polishes are embedded with micro-iron spheres, which come to life by using the special included magnet that leaves a snake-like pattern on the nails. Once known for more demure, sheer shades, essie is now one of the brands I look to for more fashion-forward polish hues. Ready to take a closer look at the RepStyle Collection?

Review: Sally Hansen Salon Insta-Gel Strips Gel Manicure Starter Kit

Gel nail manicures are gaining in popularity, due to their instantly dry, long-wearing high-gloss finish. For a long time, gels were mostly considered an in-salon service, since it takes several coats of different products that have to be cured under a special UV lamp. Not only is it time-consuming, but both the products and the lamp aren’t exactly cheap. So unless you had a manicurist’s license, you weren’t getting your hands on a gel system.

My, my, my…how the times have changed!

Sally Hansen just released a fool-proof way to get a salon-inspired gel manicure, with their new Salon Insta-Gel Strips Starter Kit. Everything you need to complete a set of gel nails at-home is at your fingertips! If you’re capable of applying a nail sticker and a single layer of top coat, you can use the Salon Insta-Gel Strips system.

What’s inside:

  • 1 mini LED lamp with automatic timer
  • gel top coat
  • 16 gel polish strips
  • 2 nail cleanser pads
  • cuticle stick, file, and buffer  [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: Shades from the Laura Mercier ‘Art Deco Muse’ Collection for Holiday 2012

Inspired by the decorative architecture, style and mood of the Art Deco period in Paris in the mid-1920’s, most notably the beautiful paintings of the artist Tamara de Lempicka

I haven’t had any Laura Mercier fun since June, back when I posted a few pieces from the fall Cinema Noir collection. That was SO long ago! Far too long to be without the lovely LM, so here are a few key pieces from the holiday collection for 2012…

Art Deco Muse is comprised of gilded metallics, complemented by spectacular reds. Think striking, ornate hues; not the traditional (and let’s face it—sometimes not-so-original) holiday reds and golds. It can either be done very well, or done very poorly or tacky…and Laura Mercier did it perfectly in my humble opinion! While I don’t have all of the pieces, I’d love to show you the rest—let’s go! Review & Swatches: L’Oréal Paris Project Runway “Electric Fantasie” Collection Colour Riche Nail Colors

If you haven’t spied the L’Oréal Paris Project Runway “Electric Fantasie” Collection in your drugstores yet—hunt it down! My local CVS recently put it out, but I’ve heard of stores having it way back in September…so hop to it! There’s a phenomenal range of eyeshadow quads, blushes, lip colors, nail appliques (the new Colour Riche Nail Lingerie!), and limited edition Colour Riche nail polishes. I’m still making my way through the colorful collection, but wanted to share the Colour Riche Nail Colors with you, because there are several not to be missed!

Colour Riche Nail Colors from the Project Runway “Electric Fantasie” Collection

My past experiences with L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Color have been very favorable. While I haven’t had these shades in my possession long enough to test wear, I can tell you that over the summer I wore a few of the Colour Riche shades without incident. With a base coat and top coat, I can get by three to four days before truly obvious signs of wear set in—and for me it’s nothing short of a miracle. I’ve stretched the wear to five days, but in all honesty, that’s when I call it quits with almost any nail polish (unless it’s a gel) out of personal preference.

Let’s take a closer look at the shades and swatches! [Read more…]

The COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss Challenge: Part 2

Did it stay brilliant?

Remember last week when I told you I was taking the COVERGIRL 7 day Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss challenge? Well, time is up! It’s time to see how my nails held up during a week of typing, errands, and housework.

Just to recap…

Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss is a new nail polish collection from COVERGIRL that promises up to 7 days of glossy color, without the use of a top coat. It’s an ambitious claim, because I always have to use top coat—or my nails don’t stand a chance against chipping and dulling signs of wear within a day or two of application. The first 15 shades were launched last week at select retailers, with an additional 30 shades on the way in January 2013. Since they have great opacity and dry quickly, these are ideal for nail art and quick polish changes!

Applying Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss is a breeze—the formula is neither too thick or thin, and two coats give high-impact color and coverage. I decided to wear a base coat for the challenge, but you can probably skip the top coat like COVERGIRL promises. Especially since I still had a somewhat glossy finish after a week of beating my nails up around the house! The real signs of wear and tear were more evident on day 4—which given the circumstances of not using a top coat is still very impressive. A little chipping became more evident on day 5, and it increased a little more over the last two days of the challenge.

While my nails didn’t escape completely unscathed, some nails survived better than others after seven days. I think this is a great formula for a mass brand, and I can’t believe that I could really skip the top coat. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t get away with this with a few other polish brands I own.
