As part of Urban Decay’s early spring releases, you’ll find the NAKED Nail Kit at Sephora now. This set of six travel size (.16 oz each) nail polishes is part of their ever-expanding NAKED family; joining the collection of existing eyeshadow palettes, liquid foundation, cheek palette (to be reviewed soon!), and beauty balm. These beautiful neutral shades were inspired by their Facebook fan favorite eyeshadow shades from the original NAKED Palette, each one new and exclusive to this set! Let’s take a closer look…

Review & Swatches: Urban Decay NAKED Skin Beauty Balm

The latest in Urban Decay’s NAKED family is already causing quite a stir—and it won’t even be available until tomorrow. Ready to meet the new NAKED Skin Beauty Balm? I thought so! Let’s go…

Urban Decay NAKED Skin Beauty Balm

Branching out in the NAKED complexion department (and there’s more, just wait!), the NAKED Skin Beauty Balm is a BB cream in theory, but with a unique Urban Decay twist. While most BB creams hailing from Asia focus on coverage and correction, most U.S.-based BB’s have been considered more like tinted moisturizers.

Urban Decay’s NAKED Skin Beauty Balm is a complexion perfector in an optical illusion sense; with light-diffusing spheres that minimize the look of fine lines and pores, while smoothing the skin down to a velvety finish. NAKED Skin Beauty Balm also focuses on skincare properties—with anti-aging ingredients that promise to hydrate, firm, and smooth skin over time. Pair all of that with an oil-free formula and an SPF 20, and that’s Urban Decay’s version of a BB cream.  [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: OPI Mariah Carey Collection

For January 2013, OPI introduces an 8-piece nail lacquer collection inspired by iconic Grammy Award-winning songstress, Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey by OPI also marks the introduction of a new polish finish for OPI—Liquid Sand.

Liquid Sand is a unique matte nail polish with a textured finish, infused with plenty of sparkle. I have a feeling this is just the start of mass-market availability of one-step textured polish finishes, so keep an eye out! Half of the Mariah Carey by OPI collection features the Liquid Sand finish (“Stage Shades”), while the remaining four shades (“Studio Shades”) feature traditional polish finishes—so don’t worry! If texture just isn’t your thing, there’s something else for you to choose from. Ready for a closer look?

 Mariah Carey by OPI

“OPI is extremely excited to work with Mariah,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “She’s very passionate about beauty and her nails in particular. Her music, which includes 18 Billboard No. 1 singles, served as a wonderful inspiration for glamorous, sultry, vibrant colors.

“To pay homage to her iconic status, we wanted to launch her collection with something completely new and exciting. OPI Liquid Sand nail lacquer offers a never-before-seen look with a pebbled finish that lightly shimmers with fine glitter particles. Worn without top coat, Liquid Sand lacquer gives nails a unique textured matte finish worthy of a superstar.”

What’s New: Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational Lip Balm

This past week, I’ve been sick—so naturally, everything feels really dry. This was the perfect time to put Maybelline’s new Color Whisper by Color Sensational lipcolor to the test, as my lips have been super parched. Color Whisper is a new lip balm with a gel-based formula that’s more than a little tinted. As a matter of fact—I think you’d be surprised by how pigmented it really is, for feeling like such a lightweight balm.

Cherry on Top

I’ve been trying out Color Whisper shade Cherry on Top, but it’s available in a complete range of 20 shades. If you’ve been a fan of Revlon’s Lip Butters, you’ll probably like Color Whisper. The main differences would be that Color Whisper is slightly less pigmented and more lightweight feeling on the lips than the Revlon Lip Butters. The Color Whisper formula features pure color pigments, suspended in a lightweight translucent gel, so there’s nothing heavy or waxy feeling. While the product is soft, it’s not so soft that it turns to mush as I glide it across my lips.  [Read more…]

The Making Pretty Collection sold out really quickly on the MAC site, faster than it arrived here, and I’m so sorry I didn’t have it for you then to help you make a purchase decision. But what I’m hoping, is that if you like either of these pieces, you’re able to find them at a MAC counter or free-standing store. Miracles DO happen…and it IS Christmas! Review & Swatches: Le Métier de Beauté Holiday 2012 Nail Lacquer Collection; Christmas Town, Dream Maker, Tinsel Town, & Moon’s Glow

Last month, I was let in on the secret of Le Métier de Beauté. This gorgeous luxury brand boasts a $265 facial peel/mask combo that will knock your socks off, just like it did for me. But admittedly, I’m a complete newbie to the brand. So when these holiday edition nail lacquers arrived; I had to turn to my friend, Pink Sith, someone I consider to be a Le Métier de Beauté aficionado, for help.

Moon’s Glow, Tinsel Town, Christmas Town, Dream Maker

I learned from Ms. Sith herself (in this post right here) that these four lacquers in the holiday 2012 collection are actually broken up into two sub-collections; ‘Deck the Nails’, and ‘Bright as Night’. Allow me to introduce you!  [Read more…]
