Review & Swatches: Wet n Wild Megalast Lipcolor 6 New Shades for 2012

Holy MOLY. Has Wet n Wild not stepped up their game recently? Last year, I was incredibly impressed with the performance of their new eyeshadow trios and singles, but I hadn’t ventured into their lipcolor category until recently. In the past few days, I’ve been trying out some of the new shades from their MegaLast Lipcolor range. All six of these shades are new for 2012, and they’ve arrived just in time for the spring brights trend.

The MegaLast Lipcolors are very pigmented semi-matte long-wearing lipstick shades that promise four hours of wear. They all have a cream-finish that I really like. For the price, I can’t believe that Wet n Wild was able to add Co-enzyme Q10, Vitamins A & E, and hyaluronic microspheres to the ingredient list—but somehow they did!

Review & Swatches: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Universal Looks Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trios

I typically do not like to wear eyeliner on my top lash line. Due to the shape of my eyes, sometimes an intense eyeliner will make my eye look closed off and take away from precious landscape. I do however, like eyeliners in unconventional shades, especially if they’re a little more on the subtle side—like these new-ish ones from Physicians Formula. They’re part of the Shimmer Strips collection of products, and they’re available in two trios; Smoky Eye, and Nude Eye.

Each trio is comprised of a softer black eyeliner, with two eye enhancing liner shades. The Smoky Eye trio enhancer shades are silver and charcoal, while the Nude Eye trio has champagne and pewter shades.

Quick Picks Under $10: Güd From Burt’s Bees Bath Products

Do not attempt to adjust your monitors, it really is spelled ‘güd‘! Luckily, all of the products I’ve tried so far from this new bath & body line are all extra, extra good. Burt’s Bees is steppin’ out into new territory with Güd; it’s a little less serious, a lot more fun, and the fragrances smell INCREDIBLE. Don’t believe me? My pal Paula from Older Girl Beauty told me she walked around Target for half an hour with a Güd bottle held up to her nose—it really is that addictive!

So far, the line has three core fragrances; Orange Petalpalooza, Floral Cherrynova, and Vanilla Flame—however Paula told me about a Target-exclusive scent, Pearanormal Activity. Each fragrance has several types of products, in which you’ll find a Natural Body Mist, Body Lotion, Body Butter, Shower Gel, Hand Wash, Shampoo, and Conditioner. So far, I’ve tried Orange Petalpalooza Natural Body Mist ($6), Floral Cherrynova Shower Gel ($7), and the Vanilla Flame Body Lotion ($7)…and let me tell you! The number of times a day I spray the body mist on myself should be illegal. If you like blood orange, you’re going to love the way it smells—it’s really crisp and fresh, and it perks me up when I feel like I’m in a little bit of a slump.   [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: Benefit High Brow Glow

Friends, do you remember Benefit Mr. Frosty? It was a chubby, frosty pearl white highlighting pencil that I was OBSESSED with. Not just a little bit, but I mean A LOT. If they still make the darn things, I can’t find them anywhere—but I guess it doesn’t really matter since I stopped wearing it once I realized that maybe it was just a little too frosty. And let’s face it—I’m not exactly very young anymore. Frost anything + more mature skin/eyes = not a good look. The point I’m getting at, is eventually I switched out Mr. Frosty for the matte pink of High Brow to highlight my brow bone and it looked about elevent-y billion times better on me. I wore it down to a nub, and for some reason started experimenting with other ways to highlight my brows without repurchasing. So many beauty products…so little time!

Fast forward to 2012; there’s a new High Brow in town! It’s called High Brow Glow, and it’s a softly shimmering champagne pink shade that has just the right amount of pearl without looking overly frosty. Yay!

Review: Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Mascara/Nylon Lash Extension System

Have you seen the new Too Faced summer collection yet? Most people are really liking the Summer Eye eyeshadow palette so far, and next up to bat is the new mascara/nylon lash extension system. Doesn’t “nylon lash extension system” sound so much better than just “mascara”? It definitely piques my interest a little more than usual, because it seems like the whole one-step falsie-look mascara thing has been done so many times before. Better Than False Lashes is a little bit different. Instead of an all-in-one mascara, it also includes a tube of nylon lash fibers that you apply while the mascara base is still a little moist. So you’d apply the mascara (gold tube), then you’d apply the fibers in the white tube, and lastly—seal those fibers into place with the mascara after. Essentially, it’s three steps.

Too Faced is calling these fibers “Flexistretch™” nylon fibers. Sounds fancy, right? But are they any different than other fibers you can buy? (Think of products like Talika Lash Extender, etc.) Take a look at the bottom brush in the photo below. It appears to me, that the Too Faced fibers are packed together a little closer than some of the other lash-extenders I’ve tried. It’s almost like they’re more fuzzy than piecey, which led to less flaking throughout the day. It’s super annoying when you have lash-fallout, and it can lead to eye irritation. So fibers staying in place is key.

The mascara itself is a pretty decent mascara on its own, it does a good job at thickening and lifting my lashes. But when I apply the fibers, and the subsequent coat of mascara to lock them in…look out!  [Read more…]

Review: Sarah Potempa BeachWaver Curling Iron

You’re probably going to think I’m nuts (if you don’t already) when I tell you that I’m a former hairstylist and colorist who absolutely loathes styling her own hair. Sad, but true! I’m always on the lookout for things that will make styling as close to effortless as possible, and Sarah Potempa’s new styling tool, the BeachWaver seemed like a good candidate to make my morning routine a little less frustrating.

I LOVE it when I’m able to get beach waves, like those on Sarah and her model below. The only problem is, my hair is incredibly fine, and sometimes it’s so soft that it won’t even hold the curl. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken the time to curl my hair, only to end up going limp before I even make it to my car. It’s gotten easier in the past year, as I finally found a decent curling iron—but I’m still experiencing dexterity issues when using it. Plus, it seems like it takes forever! So when someone says they have a way to get easy beach waves, I’m all over it.

Review: Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Lash Boosting Mascara

Remember when I told you that I had about a BILLION new Physicians Formula products to show you? I’m slowly but surely making my rounds, so it’s time to put the next product in the spotlight—the Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Lash Boosting Mascara. It’s my understanding that there are a few mascaras under the Organic Wear umbrella. I don’t have much experience with them, so I don’t really have a point of reference with which I can compare the differences.

According to Physicians Formula, the Lash Boosting formula contains a proprietary complex of zinc, iron, magnesium, and copper to help nourish and strengthen lashes. One thing I found really interesting is the inclusion of a yogurt-derived pro-biotic protein for overall lash health. I’ve never heard of such a thing in a mascara—so my ears definitely perked up! Organic Wear promises to be free of synthetic solvents, parabens, harsh chemicals, synthetic colors, fragrances, and preservatives. That’s a pretty good start, right? [Read more…]
