I’m Making Meaningful Changes, with Meaningful Beauty!

meaningful beauty 1

So far, 2013 has been a year of changes for me. I’ve made it my personal mission to better myself in a lot of areas, and I’m amazed by how many things I’m able to address by just taking better care of myself physically and emotionally. Obviously, it was a natural fit for me when I was asked to take part in a 21-day Meaningful Beauty challenge. The goal? Eliminate one bad skincare habit, and gain a few positive lifestyle habits for a happier, healthy me. Sounds easy enough, right?

A few of the Meaningful Beauty products I’m already fond of!

They say it takes 21 days to break a bad habit, and I have a few habits I should have done something about breaking a long time ago! One of them—not being as diligent with sunscreen as I should be. While I’ve always been religious about applying it to my face—I can’t say the same for my neck, decollete, and backs of my hands. With L.A. traffic being absolutely horrible, and it taking more than twice the amount of time it should really take to get anywhere, I’ve exposed my skin to UVAs and UVBs through my car windows in those areas by leaving them unprotected. So for now, I’m working on breaking that bad skincare habit by applying Meaningful Beauty’s Skin Brightening Decollete & Neck Treatment with SPF 15 every morning, no matter what. If it’s good enough for Cindy Crawford, it’s good enough for me! Have you seen her lately? She looks as incredible today as she did 20 years ago. [Read more…]

Nuance by Salma Hayek AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Eye Treatment Review

nuance salma hayek am pm eye treatmentDilara is checking in with the latest from Nuance by Salma Hayek! —Amber

I’m going to be completely honest here. Whenever I see a product with a celebrity’s name on it, I usually run the other way. Maybe that dates back to my experience with Debbie Gibson’s Electric Youth perfume from the late 80’s, but I’ve always found that celebrity-endorsed products were more about capitalizing on the celebrity’s fame and not their actual ability to create a solid product.

And now I shall eat my words.

Salma Hayek’s Nuance Anti-Aging Super Eye Treatment is just that—a super eye treatment. Packed with Vitamins A & E to help moisturize and replenish the delicate skin around the eyes, this stuff really does the trick for me. Unlike some eye treatments, this one isn’t greasy or sticky. It is relatively lightweight and has the consistency of a regular lotion with just a tiny bit more firmness to it. There is no fragrance to it, which I love and is great for sensitive eyes and skin anyway. It goes on smooth and sinks right in. I noticed this product also contains rice bran and did a quick check—it is an ingredient used for centuries in Asian cultures to help smooth and refine skin. I totally agree that it does just that.  [Read more…]

Review: Dermalogica Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum

dermalogica ultrasmoothing Eye Serum(Editor’s note: After a brief absence, Dilara is back! We won’t have her for long, as she’s awaiting the arrival of baby #2, but I love having her here!)

As far as skin care goes, Dermalogica never seems to let me down. Their new Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum is no exception to the rule either. This new serum promises not only to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, but also make the skin around the eye firmer and smoother. I’ve been noticing my eyes are showing more wear and tear lately so I was eager to give it a try.

At first glance the serum was a little thinner than I would have expected. I also expected it to be clear, but it had a yellow-ish tint to it. The serum itself has a slight medicinal, botanical scent to it, which I find in most Dermalogica products and kind of like.

This serum contains Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which is a fancy name for water-soluble Vitamin C. This helps prevent redness, stinging and sensitivity around the eye area. Hexapeptide 11 is another ingredient in the serum that promises to firm the skin, improve elasticity and reduce fine lines. There are also several botanical ingredients as well that help moisturize and reduce puffiness. [Read more…]

Is This $875 Facial Moisturizer The Dream Cream?

3 lab super cream

Is this The Dream Cream?

Confession: I’ve had this baby for several months, but I struggled with how to present it to you. I feared I might be thrown over a cliff when I suggested an $875 facial moisturizer for you, or even tossed into a pit of flames. Okay, maybe not. But I didn’t know how would react. While I’m not suggesting you run out and charge up your Visa for the 3LAB Super Cream, I am telling you to keep it on your radar—because the technology behind this cream is a total game changer. I don’t think anyone else on the consumer market has the ability, ingredients, or the technology to keep up right now.

Get this—just one of the ingredients in Super Cream costs $900,000 per kilo. Yes, you read that right, that was not a typo! [Read more…]

Launching officially on 6/25 on urbandecay.com, you’ll find two new products; the B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray, and the Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging. This won’t serve as a full review for these products because I haven’t used them long enough to vouch for their efficacy, but I can share some information and first impressions. Shall we?urban decay b6 vitamin infused complexion prep spray

I found this really interesting, as the B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray is made in partnership with SKINDINÄVIA, who are well-known for their line of skin prepping and setting sprays. According to Urban Decay, it contains the first stabilized form of Vitamin B6, which “absorbs oil, minimizes pores, and reduces redness.” Hmm. Pretty interesting stuff! [Read more…]

I can honestly say I’ve never met an exfoliator that’s so gentle, yet so effective at the same time. I can also say that I’ve never used Chinese herbs to exfoliate my skin either! Bioelements utilizes an exclusive pro formula of herb granules—dubbed Herbology. First, they offer physical exfoliation, and once activated with water and their olive oil-based cleanser to “melt” the granules, which release natural alpha-hydroxy acid to help dissolve the pesky cells that want to literally stick around. Beauty Quickies: Body Drench Exotic Oils Body Lotions

Beauty Quickies is a series where I showcase a great product that I haven’t had the opportunity to write a comprehensive review for. These products pass my standards, and I hope you enjoy getting these beauty product stats at-a-glance!

body drench tahitian monoi oil indian neroli body lotion

Self-tanning season is upon us, and I’ve been in search of great body lotions to keep skin hydrated to extend the life of your faux glow! While shopping at Sally Beauty Supply last month, I stumbled across the Exotic Oils Body Lotions from Body Drench, and I had to give them a shot. (Their Original Moisturizing Lotion is also awesome for extending the life of a self-tan!)

The Exotic Oils are available in three varieties; Tahitian Monoi Oil, Indian Neroli Oil, and Moroccan Argan Oil. I’ve tried two of them, and they’re fantastic.

Tahitian Monoi Oil

As a fan of delicious fragrances, these hit all the right notes for me. The Tahitian Monoi Oil is a tropical treat, with rich coconut and Tahitian gardenia notes. The Indian Neroli Oil is scented primarily like neroli (a beautiful bitter orange note). I haven’t had a chance to try the Moroccan Argan Oil, but it’s next on my list.

While these smell great, they also pack some great hydrating ingredients; cocoa butter, Vitamin E, jojoba oil, and coconut oil just to name a few. Not quite as rich as a body butter, the lotion texture still feels rich, yet penetrates and absorbs quickly—so it doesn’t leave behind that uncomfortable grimy, sticky feeling that a lot of lotions can. Go ahead and skip the perfume while wearing these, their authentic fragrance notes stand on their own. Weighing in at a whopping 16.9 ounces, the Exotic Oils body lotions from Body Drench are a superb value.

Perlier 8-Piece Shower & Body Cream Travel Kit Review

Perlier on HSN 8 piece mini travel set

I’m big on watching HSN, that’s no surprise. So it’s probably not a surprise that I buy a lot from the shopping channels—especially beauty products! But unlike the mascaras and eyeshadows I buy, the one thing I’m always hesitant on are the bodycare products. Unless you have smell-a-vision, you’ve probably thought the same thing. Buying cosmetics is easy—shower gel and moisturizer—not so much!

For years I’ve spied Perlier on HSN, and I’ve always been curious. The products look and sound decadent, but I just couldn’t commit. (Blame it on that lack of smell-a-vision!) But I’m here to share my first Perlier experience with you, so you can decide if this is a bodycare brand you want to venture into as well! I tried out a sample pack of their basics—the 8-Piece Shower & Body Cream Travel Kit found exclusively on HSN. Let’s take a closer look…
