LORAC Sultry Starlet Vintage Vixen palettes

The scoop…

On Black Friday this year, LORAC is releasing two limited edition palettes, and both will retail for $12 each at ULTA. One has five matte shades, and it’s called the Vintage Vixen (peach print). The second palette has five shimmer shades, and it’s called the Sultry Starlet (burgundy print). I have not given all 10 shades a 100% test drive for a full review, but I feel comfortable sharing my initial thoughts and feelings on them enough to give the details and swatches, with the hopes they can help you make a purchasing decision.

Each palette fits in the length of my hand, and they contain a total net weight of 0.29 oz./8.23g in each palette. The surface of the palettes have a black vintage print that’s laminated, over a thick cardboard exterior. (They do feel pretty sturdy!) Inside you’ll find a small mirror, and the flap of the palette is secured when it’s closed by a magnet. LORAC Sultry Starlet ULTA Black Friday Palette

Sultry Starlet breakdown…

While the shades don’t have names, these are my best attempts at descriptions:

  • pale rose gold shimmer
  • pale peach/copper shimmer
  • yellow gold shimmer
  • hazelnut brown shimmer
  • dark mocha shimmer

I thought the texture of four of the five shades was very smooth, and nearly creamy with good pigmentation and color payoff. The one shade that required a little extra love was the yellow gold shimmer. It’s not terrible, but not as smooth and pigmented as the other shades. The yellow gold shade had a little bit of powdery-ness to it. Again, not terrible—but a heads up! [Read more…]

tarte Sweet Indulgences 3-in-1 Holiday Gift Set for QVC Today’s Special Value for 11/10/14

Tarte Sweet Indulgence 3 in 1 holiday gift set qvc tsv

I’ve been tinkering with tarte’s QVC  Today’s Special Value; it’s the Sweet Indulgences 3-in-1 Holiday Gift Set, and it is bountiful! On 11/10, you can score this phenomenal gift for just $59.94. After Monday—it will go back to regular price. To help you decide if you should make the splurge, I’ve put together the product photos, swatches, and product information. This won’t serve as a full review since I haven’t been able to wear all of these items in the amount of time I’ve had the collection, so please use this as more of a guide than a full review.

This is an easy way to have three individual gifts for about $20 each, or you can gift the whole set together. All three golden leaflet-print boxes slide into a single case. Kind of like a cute little library of makeup treats!

Inside the aqua box, you’ll find…

  • Lipsurgence Lip Gloss in Indulging — soft raspberry
  • Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Wonder — poppy
  • Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Rare – peach nude
  • Amazonian Clay blush in Pampered — melon
  • Amazonian Clay blush in Savored — golden rose

The Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush shades are absolutely gorgeous! I can’t recall ever not liking any that I’ve tried, and these are no exception. I found that the colors really do stay true all day for me. They’re pretty silky to the touch, and aren’t powder-y, but my blush brush is able to pick up a nice deposit of pigment that blends easily into my skin without streaking. I have combination skin, and tend to get oily in my cheeks—so for these not to fade or slip around during the day is a win. That pretty iridescence in the Savored shade is everything!   [Read more…]

My Latest Addiction: Laura Geller Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla

Laura Geller French Vanilla Baked Highlighter

I know the packaging is very unassuming, and you might not realize it yet—but no doubt, my friends. You’re looking at a fantastic multi-tasker. It went Holy Grail status for me just seconds after applying.

Meet Laura Geller’s French Vanilla Baked Highlighter; a silky, sheer beige illuminating powder that can be used just about anywhere!

Laura Geller French Vanilla

  • Using this on the highest part of my cheekbones adds a warm glow that rivals how flattering a dinner by candlelight is to my complexion.
  • Using it solely on my brow bone or as eyeshadow all-over opens up my eye area so that I look awake and refreshed.
  • Wearing alone on the inner corners of my eyes makes my eyes dazzle day or night.
  • Applying it on the bow of my top lip gives my pout definition.
  • Dusting it along my collarbone with an open-neck top or dress gives a slightly defined sheen.
  • Placing it lightly along the bridge of my nose adds a point of light for definition and healthy glow.

I’m sure you can think of a few more ways to make it work!  [Read more…]

Perricone MD — No Makeup Skincare — No Lipstick Lipstick & No Blush Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

perricone MD No Blush No Lipstick

Perricone MD No Makeup Makeup

Sometimes I don’t want to wear makeup at all, but at the same time I want to look polished and not like I rolled out of bed. I’ve figured out a few tricks by now, but these new products from Perricone MD make it so easy. Their No Makeup Skincare line at Sephora is already a big hit, and I recently tried two of the products out to see if they live up to the hype. Let’s go!

Perricone MD No Lipstick Lipstick

No Lipstick Lipstick

First up is No Lipstick Lipstick. It really isn’t a lipstick (hence No Lipstick)—but it’s actually an anti-aging lip treatment that lends a glossy, smooth finish in a shade that’s like your lips—but better. I find it to be very nourishing and hydrating, and it almost feels like a lip butter. Perricone MD is known for their luxe skincare products, so it’s only natural that they’d include some of those innovative ingredients in their color cosmetic offerings.

It’s a solid-to-serum product, and contains hyaluronic acid and tocotrienols to add suppleness. It also contains a non-chemical mineral-based SPF 15 to protect against UVA and UVB rays, so you know I’m happy about that. (Sunscreen for LIFE!)   [Read more…]

L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Hot Mess Review, Photos, Swatches

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint Hot Mess

For weeks, I’ve been hearing around the Blogosphere that the new L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints are dupes of another new lip color product from Too Faced that people have already deemed “holy grail status”, the Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipsticks. While I haven’t had the fortune of trying the Melted lippies yet, I was on a mission to find the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints in my area, because I had to see if they were the bargain that people were saying that they are! (Plus, the shades looked really pretty!)

I wound up locating them at a small accessories boutique, and wouldn’t you know, they only had two left. One was Hot Mess, this fun orange, and the other was Pin-Up, a red in which I have a dozen other similar shades. So Hot Mess it was!

la girl glazed lip paint

From previous research, right off the bat, I can tell you the applicators are totally different on Glazed versus Melted. In fact, I don’t recommend applying Glazed directly out of the tube at all, you’ll make a mess! The product has a little bit of a gloppy consistency if you apply it that way, it’s extremely pigmented, and it’s sure to be applied unevenly and will result in bleeding/migration outside of the lip line.  [Read more…]
