Urban Decay NAKED BASICS 2 Palette

I’ve been pretty excited about this release, but I really wanted to wear it quite a bit before I gave my final thoughts. If you wanted to wear the gorgeous matte neutrals inside the Urban Decay NAKED Basics palette and found the shades too warm, NAKED2 Basics may be more your speed. Let’s check it out!

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics palette Naked Basics Double Ended Brush

NAKED2 Basics is a palm-sized eyeshadow palette that contains six taupe-hued matte neutral shades. One of the shades is a satin-matte (Skimp), while the rest are a little more flat in finish. Five of the shades are also brand new, and currently exclusive to NAKED2. Whether the new shades will be released in singles or in other palettes is yet to be seen. Occasionally, if UD fans ask for it enough, shades do come back!  [Read more...]

China Glaze Off Shore Collection

So what if September is on the way? This California girl is just not ready to give up summer yet, and you’re probably not either! Don’t get me wrong, I love my jewel tones and sweaters (and I’ll be covering fall products in a few weeks), but there’s something so fun about brights that makes me want to wear them year-round. Bright toes? Yes, PLEASE! And let’s not forget how great brightly pigmented nail polish shades are great for nail art, 365 days a year.

This summer, I’ve adorned my tootsies with several shades from the China Glaze Off Shore Collection, and I’ve received compliments when I wear sandals. I’d have to say my fave shades are Wait n’ Sea, Sun Upon My Skin, and X-Ta-Sea, but I’d love to hear your personal faves.

And guess what? You also have a chance to win one of five complete sets of the Off Shore Collection!

L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Hot Mess Review, Photos, Swatches

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint Hot Mess

For weeks, I’ve been hearing around the Blogosphere that the new L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints are dupes of another new lip color product from Too Faced that people have already deemed “holy grail status”, the Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipsticks. While I haven’t had the fortune of trying the Melted lippies yet, I was on a mission to find the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints in my area, because I had to see if they were the bargain that people were saying that they are! (Plus, the shades looked really pretty!)

I wound up locating them at a small accessories boutique, and wouldn’t you know, they only had two left. One was Hot Mess, this fun orange, and the other was Pin-Up, a red in which I have a dozen other similar shades. So Hot Mess it was!

la girl glazed lip paint

From previous research, right off the bat, I can tell you the applicators are totally different on Glazed versus Melted. In fact, I don’t recommend applying Glazed directly out of the tube at all, you’ll make a mess! The product has a little bit of a gloppy consistency if you apply it that way, it’s extremely pigmented, and it’s sure to be applied unevenly and will result in bleeding/migration outside of the lip line.  [Read more...]

A Whole ‘Lotta Love for Kelly Yum-Yum from The MAC Osbournes Collection

mac kelly yum yum lipstick 1

Without a doubt, I’m super cray over my favorite piece from the Kelly installment of the recent MAC Osbournes CollectionKelly Yum-Yum lipstick. Okay, so bummer. It’s currently sold out on maccosmetics.com, but that doesn’t mean you can’t charm your way to a tube at a MAC counter somewhere; either at a MAC store, or a department store with a MAC counter. You’d be surprised what you can get with a little bit of sugar versus vinegar! I can’t promise anything, but I swear it will never hurt to try.

Like the rest of Kelly’s part of the collection, the components are purple that mimic her various shades of purple hair she likes to rock. It’s also emblazoned with her signature in red. The interior says “MAC” in purple on the black area where you twist the tube.  I like the small touches of detail of the packaging with this celeb-inspired collection.   [Read more...]

MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Nail Lacquers Review, Photos, Swatches — Neptune, Shimmerfish

MAC Alluring Aquatics nail polish neptune shimmerfish

Right away, you already know I’m in love here. First we have two metallic colors that I’m immediately drawn to, and second–we have my favorite element as a Pisces—water! The MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection is home to several gorgeous sea-inspired hues, housed in the most awesome packaging. The components are mirrored aqua, and look like real water droplets on them! Of course, they’re not real water but you will feel some clear bumps molded over the surfaces to give the water effect. Pretty clever there, MAC! Water-sign approved. MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Nail Polish Neptune Shimmerfish

Neptune, Shimmerfish

There are three shades in the collection, and sadly, I’m missing the third. (Must track down!) Neptune — tarnished gold frost with hints of green, Shimmerfish — sparkling aluminum pearl, and Submerged — dark teal chrome. Excuse me for a moment while I mourn the fact that Submerged hasn’t made its way home yet. Isn’t she glorious?

MAC Submerged Nail Lacquer

I haven’t had the time to finish going the through all the pieces of the collection that I received, but I’m making my way through them this week. I have to say, I found these two shades (Neptune and Shimmerfish) pretty impressive. The formula had a nice flow, and gave full coverage in two coats.  [Read more...]

Sneak Peek: MAC Lorde Collection Lipstick — Pure Heroine

MAC Lorde Pure Heroine Lipstick
Say what you will, but I love Lorde. This teenager is wise well beyond her years, and rocks a unique signature style that I totally appreciate in a world of carbon copy pop princesses. This summer, MAC will release Pure Heroine—a deep amplified plum lipstick, along with the Rapidblack Penultimate Eye Liner (permanent line) as the Lorde Collection.

MAC Lorde Collection

I’ve applied it twice in the past 24 hours, and I can tell you so far that it’s not super drying like most shades in this color family. Pure Heroine has a nice slick finish with a purple-plum payoff on my skin tone. I think it will look more like an authentic deep Lorde-like shade when paired with a deep lip liner. (I’ve read people recommending several—take MAC Vino or Nightmoth for instance.)  [Read more...]

What’s New: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Gash (LE) Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Gash

About a zillion years ago, when I had my first big girl job with a big girl paycheck, I was obsessed with this new brand called Urban Decay. The line wasn’t very large at the time, but the small offering of shades was very risqué for the time period. I wore Gash lipstick, and you couldn’t tell me ANYTHING! I thought I was just the hottest thing going, in a time period where pretty rose pinks and light browns were prevalent. It really was like my sex-say lipstick training wheels! I eventually moved on to other deep and moody lipsticks after my dark shade introduction, and Gash was eventually retired. Tears were shed.

Until now!

Urban Decay Gash Revolution Lipstick

Gash has long been a favorite of Wende Zomnir (she holds all the power since she’s the brand’s co-founder and CCO). Girlfriend has such rockin’ taste. (You should see her in person! Style out of control!) As it turns out—she really missed Gash too. (And lucky US!) Here’s a shade a LOT of us are happy she’s revisiting. Thanks, Wende! [Read more...]

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipglass / Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

mac viva glam rihanna lipglass lipstick

Just when you thought MAC was finished collaborating with Rihanna, along comes a new Viva Glam lip collection for 2014!

In case you didn’t know…

As always, every cent from every Viva Glam lipcolor goes directly to the MAC AIDS Fund.  The organization helps women, men and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. I’m forever a Viva Glam fan!

Just one Viva Glam Lipstick can equal…

  • 1 rapid oral HIV test
  • 8 nutritious, home-cooked meals
  • 1 school stationery starter pack for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • 1 vegetable garden starter pack for a community garden
  • 2 safer sex kits
  • 1 month of personal transportation to and from doctors visits
  • 2 hours of childcare for a woman during a medical appointment
  • 14 blood glucose monitoring strips
  • 1 pair of shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS
  • …and more!

Good incentive, right?
mac viva glam rihanna lipstick

The Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick is a super creamy blue-red shade (MAC’s description) with a little bit of frost/lustre. I think the end-result shade on the wearer depends on lighting situations and skin undertones. There were some times I felt it looked more cool than others, and the frost wasn’t easy to pick up with my camera. It’s there, but I think it’s quite slight. I think my lipstick swatches actually turned out a little warmer than they really should have, so please also take that into consideration. [Read more...]
