Jenna Hipp What’s Hot Now Nail Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

jenna hipp set costcoOn one of my three trips to Costco last week, I couldn’t leave without this—the Jenna Hipp What’s Hot Now Nail Collection. I’ve never loved and hated a place so much in my life! They’re doing these cool collaborations with beauty industry pros, like Pati Dubroff, Orlando Pita, and in this case—celeb manicurist Jenna Hipp. I hope to try the others soon, but I had to share this one with you.

With shades like these for just $14.99, you know it was leaving with me. Unfortunately, that excitement was short-lived.

What’s inside:

  • 12 – 0.16 fl. oz. Mini Nail Lacquer Bottles

ZOYA Cashmeres Collection for Fall 2013 Review, Photos, Swatches

zoya cashmeres collection 2

Following up on the ZOYA Satins Collection, check out the second fall installment from this incredible polish brand—the Cashmeres Collection. With six new dreamy hues, they make me want to break out my sweaters and boots before October! (But that happens almost every year!)

zoya cashmeres collection 1

Zoya Cashmeres Collection

Like most ZOYA shades, these all required two coats of color for full coverage, but some were a little more thin than others. I typically get almost a week of wear out of ZOYA’s regular shades (not including the PixieDusts), so I think it’s a quality formula overall and rarely have complaints. Let’s look at them a little closer! [Read more...]

ZOYA Satins Collection for Fall 2013 Review, Photos, Swatches

zoya satins fall 2013 collection

Gorgeous shades for fall…

It’s very, very rare that ZOYA lets me down, and this new seasonal collection for fall makes me very, very happy! The Satins and Cashmeres (review forthcoming in a second post) Collections were just released, and they make me want to unpack my fall sweaters in August. It’s in the 80s, so don’t worry—I won’t! But I’ll still gladly rock these rich hues before Labor Day.

The shades…

Maria Luisa, Channing, Mason, Claudine, Neve, Giovanna

To say that I’m loving these would be an understatement, but I wanted to point out some things I noticed about the shades. Like most ZOYA shades, two coats are sufficient with the Satins Collection. I also noticed that these shades seemed much more pigmented than usual, with nearly full coverage in a single coat (the exceptions would be Channing, and Maria Luisa (but the latter is a flakie, so no biggie.) But like any nail polish—I’m going to suggest two coats of color, and top coat for optimal wear. [Read more...]

MAC So Supreme Collection Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC So Supreme Collection

I’ve been tinkering with these bad boys for a little over a week, because I just couldn’t commit to any solid feelings for them initially. But I think I’ve finally settled on an opinion on the new MAC So Supreme Collection!

So Supreme is home to six Sheen Supreme Lipsticks, and eight Sheen Supreme Lipglass Tint shades. Both of these lippie textures are new to me. Even though there are Sheen Supreme Lipstick shades in the permanent range, this is my first shot with it, while the Sheen Supreme Lipglass Tint is an entirely new texture. Let’s go!MAC Pleasurefruit

Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Pleasurefruit — bright warm pink

Of the six lipstick shades, I have three of them; Pret-A-Pretty, Playtime, and Pleasurefruit. To me, the texture is a cross between a gloss-balm and a lipstick, as the texture is somewhat dense and coverage ranges from medium to full. For being pretty pigmented, they’re not overly drying, but they’re also not the most hydrating lipcolor I’ve ever worn. (It kind of meets right in the middle.) They apply with just a little tugging initially, but once the product warms up, it glides across my lips pretty easily. [Read more...]

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Too Faced Pretty Rebel 1

This fall, Too Faced is taking chances and breaking all the rules with their new Pretty Rebel eyeshadow palette. If loving Pretty Rebel is wrong, I don’t want to be right! This badass palette is home to 10 gorgeously pigmented shades; a few being on the more demure side, while the rest give a rebel yell. Ready to swoon? Let’s go!

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette

Pretty Rebel’s exterior has a textured faux gold surface, with raised black straps to give it an edgier appeal than I’m used to seeing from Too Faced—but I rather like it. The palette itself feels sturdy and has a magnetic closure which is pretty standard. Inside, you’ll find a good sized mirror that has a decorative gold stud pattern around it, it’s a cute touch to keep the theme consistent. And for the most important part—the eyeshadows…

Get ready. They ROCK. [Read more...]

ZOYA PixieDust Special Texture Edition Fall 2013 Review, Photos, Swatches

zoya fall pixiedust collection

A year ago, if you told me I’d be wearing something super textured on my nails, I’d shake my head and laugh! Recently, other brands have tried to get us nail buffs to embrace the texture trend, but the one brand I think that really hit it on the head is ZOYA.

Normally, I have a hard time wearing glitters and textured nail colors for very long, because I have the incessant urge to touch them, and it gets a little annoying. With the ZOYA PixieDusts however? I’ll just suck it up, because the effects are GORGEOUS. Let’s check out the Fall 2013 PixieDust Collection

Carter — cool royal purple matte with metallic sparkle texture

Just in case you’ve never worn PixieDusts before, they’re different in a few ways than traditional nail polish. For one, you don’t wear base coat or top coat. That’s right! No base coat! With the last collection, I wore base coat, and I found the formula actually chipped faster. So I’m going to take ZOYA’s word and skip it from now on. I think the formula is pretty durable. If you wear top coat, you’ll spoil the dimensional matte base with sparkle texture. [Read more...]

Dior Nail Glow Review, Photos, Swatches

dior nail glow 1

Believe it or not, for being a beauty junkie and a nail polish lover—I’m actually quite a minimalist when it comes to my fingernails. Occasionally, I’ll wear a nail color, but I swatch and test so much that it often makes it impossible to stick with any one color for very long. I usually leave the nail salon with clear on my nails after my manicures because I do like the shine. (I should probably just get them buffed!) Inevitably, I chip that clear the very next day. I get frustrated, take it off, and wind up with bare nails anyway.

Dior recently released a new nail enhancer—Dior Nail Glow. I had a few reservations about this product, because it seems like people really love it, or they really dislike it. I figured I was never going to know unless I tried it out, so I plunked down the $24 to find out myself! I’m not going to lie—it took a lot for me to part with that much cash for a tinted nail enhancer! I’m also a big believer though in letting people spend their own wallets, so I hope this helps you.

note the brush shape

Nail Glow is available in one universal shade, a glossy clear with a bright pink tint. The purpose is to make the pink of your nail pinker, while adding contrast to your natural tips. I’ve had people say that this makes the whites of their nails whiter, but to be honest—I think if anything it’s just a contrast trick with the color, and I don’t think it adds a french manicure effect. I’m pretty happy about that, though! I really did just want something to make my natural nails look healthier, and I think I get that with Nail Glow. [Read more...]
