Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette

Pretty Rebel’s exterior has a textured faux gold surface, with raised black straps to give it an edgier appeal than I’m used to seeing from Too Faced—but I rather like it. The palette itself feels sturdy and has a magnetic closure which is pretty standard. Inside, you’ll find a good sized mirror that has a decorative gold stud pattern around it, it’s a cute touch to keep the theme consistent. And for the most important part—the eyeshadows…

Get ready. They ROCK. [Read more...]

ZOYA PixieDust Special Texture Edition Fall 2013 Review, Photos, Swatches

zoya fall pixiedust collection

A year ago, if you told me I’d be wearing something super textured on my nails, I’d shake my head and laugh! Recently, other brands have tried to get us nail buffs to embrace the texture trend, but the one brand I think that really hit it on the head is ZOYA.

Normally, I have a hard time wearing glitters and textured nail colors for very long, because I have the incessant urge to touch them, and it gets a little annoying. With the ZOYA PixieDusts however? I’ll just suck it up, because the effects are GORGEOUS. Let’s check out the Fall 2013 PixieDust Collection

Carter — cool royal purple matte with metallic sparkle texture

Just in case you’ve never worn PixieDusts before, they’re different in a few ways than traditional nail polish. For one, you don’t wear base coat or top coat. That’s right! No base coat! With the last collection, I wore base coat, and I found the formula actually chipped faster. So I’m going to take ZOYA’s word and skip it from now on. I think the formula is pretty durable. If you wear top coat, you’ll spoil the dimensional matte base with sparkle texture. [Read more...]

Dior Nail Glow Review, Photos, Swatches

dior nail glow 1

Believe it or not, for being a beauty junkie and a nail polish lover—I’m actually quite a minimalist when it comes to my fingernails. Occasionally, I’ll wear a nail color, but I swatch and test so much that it often makes it impossible to stick with any one color for very long. I usually leave the nail salon with clear on my nails after my manicures because I do like the shine. (I should probably just get them buffed!) Inevitably, I chip that clear the very next day. I get frustrated, take it off, and wind up with bare nails anyway.

Dior recently released a new nail enhancer—Dior Nail Glow. I had a few reservations about this product, because it seems like people really love it, or they really dislike it. I figured I was never going to know unless I tried it out, so I plunked down the $24 to find out myself! I’m not going to lie—it took a lot for me to part with that much cash for a tinted nail enhancer! I’m also a big believer though in letting people spend their own wallets, so I hope this helps you.

Nail Glow is available in one universal shade, a glossy clear with a bright pink tint. The purpose is to make the pink of your nail pinker, while adding contrast to your natural tips. I’ve had people say that this makes the whites of their nails whiter, but to be honest—I think if anything it’s just a contrast trick with the color, and I don’t think it adds a french manicure effect. I’m pretty happy about that, though! I really did just want something to make my natural nails look healthier, and I think I get that with Nail Glow. [Read more...]

Sneak Peek Review: Urban Decay Limited Edition Nail Color in Vice & Addiction

Urban Decay Nail Polish Color Vice Addiction

It’s about time! I’m so happy about the upcoming fall releases, and I’m testing out some exciting new products from Urban Decay which I’ll be bringing to you soon. But one thing I couldn’t wait on, was the new limited edition nail colors. These will be extremely limited I’m told, so I wanted to make sure you saw them in case they were all scooped up quickly!

Way back in 1996 when Urban Decay launched, the line debuted with just 12 nail polishes and 10 lipsticks. I totally remember the nail polishes, and I purchased several of them. I remember at the time, the polish colors were sort of out there, and they were some of the first shades I ever owned that were truly “outside the box”. These days, the sky’s the limit with nail polish shades, so they’re not so shocking anymore! But back in those days, they were very, very cutting edge.

Since then, Urban Decay went the way of releasing mini sets of nail polishes here and there, but the demand has been high for new full size shades. Happy to indulge us in our desires, they’re going to bring us two full size, limited edition shades every season, hand-picked by Wende herself! [Read more...]

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle, Lust

In the past, I haven’t had much luck with the Mineralize Eyeshadows, so I was a little concerned with being let down with them this time around. Luckily these two worked really well for me! These baked eyeshadows were generously pigmented and easy to blend. [Read more...]

Nicole by OPI Tink Collection Inspired by Tinker Bell Review, Photos, Swatches

Nicole by OPI Tink Collection

Inspired by Disney’s Tinker Bell

This is a new collection from Nicole by OPI, inspired by one of my favorite childhood characters, Tinker Bell. The Tink Collection features six new limited edition shades, and I’m so sad I only have four of them to share—because I feel that the two I’m missing are what pull this collection together and really make it “Tink”!

The shade breakdown from Nicole by OPI:

  • Pixie Glitter* — This clear gloss is sprinkled with tiny rainbows.
  • How Fairy Nice of You!* — This sweet pixie pink gives me wings.
  • Tink’s in the Pink — This happy fuchsia makes me, well…happy!
  • Sweet on Pete — This lime green is the “key” to Pete’s heart!
  • Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary — Not, it’s NOT orange…it’s tangerine. So there!
  • Half Charming / Half Alarming — This coral is perfect when you’re feeling unpredictable.

* not pictured

 A few things I noticed…

  • Sweet on Pete is definitely a three-coater. After two, it was just okay, but needed a thin third to compensate for its thinner formula. This shade also stained my nails slightly, so I gently buffed it off.
  • Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary had a nice flow and consistency, and leveled easily. The first coat had me worried, but after the second and top coat, all was fine.
  • Half Charming/Half Alarming is kind of a chameleon. It’s like it wants to be a creme, but it’s not in my opinion. Not quite a jelly, not quite a creme, I’m dubbing this one a gloss. It has a thinner formula, but looks great after two coats.
  • Tink’s in the Pink is your typical creme formula, two coats for me, and all was fine.
